    Detective # 8

    Script

Detective Comics# 8 features an excellent story from writer / artist Tony Daniel who pits the Dark Knight in a battle of wits and nerves against the Scarecrow. A fast paced tale in which we see Batman's black and white attitude when it comes to getting the job done and his unerring focus shows through his relationships with Catwoman, Gordon and Scarecrow. Particularly impressive was the way Batman extorts the information he needs from a small time criminal.

The back up story gives the reader an insight into the darker workings of Gotham's legal department in a story which has Harvey Dent / Two face at its center. Like the opening tale, this story draws the reader deeper into the life of Gotham City and the whole issue sets up next months "Court of Owls" story line very nicely.

    Art

Another excellent issue art wise as Daniel uses a wide variety of angles and page layouts throughout. This creative use of the page space available adds greatly to the enjoyment of both stories. Add to that the great use of shade / color in both stories, which enhances the mood of both stories and throw in an action packed cover illustration and you have a sure fire winner in the art department.

    Conclusion

This is an excellent issue in terms of both story and art and for me one of the best comics this month so far. Another strong issue in what is a strong addition to the Detective series thus far.

Have I missed something? I was thoroughly enjoying the Dollmaker storyline in Detective Comics and thought it was a perfect start to the New 52 run. The short Penguin arc in issues #5 to #7 wasn't terrible but wasn't great and so with that wrapped up I was expecting to get straight back into where we left of with the Dollmaker arc. But now with I've found myself checking back on issue #4 to make sure that the story arc had not ended.Detective Comics #8 seems to be a one off starring Scarecrow, C...
