Don't trust your eyes
As i have said before, in my mind Detective Comics is the gritty version of Batman whereas the main Batman title is the more superhero-like title. Thus far in the new 52 that seems to have been reversed, with two mostly trivial story arcs already having wrapped in this series. This issue comes out of nowhere though and returns this series to its roots. The end result is two pretty solidly told stories (there is a backup story here is well) which focus on the darker side of Gotham. That is not to say that they are stand-out stories, but still well told. In the first Batman has to track down three things for the Scarecrow in order to avoid someone's unfortunate end, and the backup story features Two Face as he deals with what he thinks is an assassin. I think this issue is the best so far in the new series, and shows that DC knows that it has to make this series at least above the middle of the pack.
