The Night Has a Thousand Fears!; Sign of the Two Fingers! last edited by pikahyper on 02/25/19 01:21PM View full history

“THE NIGHT HAS A THOUSAND FEARS!” Batman develops a fear of the dark when he accidentally sniffs a packet of drugs a smuggler has planted in Bruce Wayne’s luggage.

Batman stars in "The night has a thousand fears!" When Bruce Wayne returns from a holiday, his luggage is checked through security by none other than "Shotgun" Smith - Gotham's toughest cop. However, when Bruce re-opens the case later, he finds someone has planted narcotics inside. The drug has a mysterious effect on Bruce - it makes him afraid of the dark. Tracking the only other person who handled his luggage - the air hostess checkout girl - Batman discovers her secret rendezvous with... Shotgun Smith! However, "Smith" is revealed as a phoney and the dope a mind-control drug, which was aimed at making Bruce Wayne a "willing" blackmail victim.

The Elongated Man stars in "The sign of Two Fingers!" When Elongated Man discovers his wife and pet dog are in the hands of a gang of criminals, he has no alternative but to go along with their blackmail. Discovering the whereabouts of his wife, Ralph uses two Elongated fingers to remove two guns from a couple of hoods before knocking them and their boss out for the count.

Are you afraid of the dark? 0

This is the kind of Batman story that could only be told in the Golden or Silver Age. Batman becomes afraid of the dark! Yes, THE Batman becomes afraid of the dark. It's not his most heroic moment. Actually, the second story, starring the Elongated Man is better and more enjoyable. Without the second story, I would have given this issue 1 or 2 stars....
