A “Death of the Family” tie-in issue!

As The Joker continues to wreak havoc on The Dark Knight and his allies, Batman is forced to cut a deal with The Penguin…one that will come back to haunt both of them when a new villain interferes!

And in the backup story, Ignatius Ogivly usurps The Penguin’s throne and decides to lead the underworld crimelords in The Penguin’s place!

ReviewOh, you want a Bat-book that ties into the Death of the Family books but didn't have Joker appear in the book at all yet still rock to the standards of the main story?Bat-book quest resolved!This book does a couple of cool things I was interested in. It used a lot of the Penguin background characters from earlier issues as a back drop for what was going on in this issue. Nothin' But SmilesTo this review with images, Click Here.John Layman has taken the reigns of Detective Comics, and he has delivered three good issues. However, the last one left a little something to be desired with the “Death of the Family” cross over feeling extremely forced and undermining the strength of the original narrative. Furthermore, the lack of resolution between Ivy and Clayface was a bit irritating. Still, it was a pretty good issue, and I am eager to see what Layman has in store. ...

***SPOILER FREE REVIEW***Sometimes a creative change is all a title needs. Tony Daniel's run on Detective Comics always look quite good, but the stories Daniel's was writing went from solid (the Dollmaker arc) to sloppy (the Mr Toxic art) to just bad (The Penguin arc). However, with Layman and Fabok, we're getting a great series that's an absolute joy to read.Layman has had a great handle on how to write a fun issue of Batman, and Issue #16 is no different.
