The Detective Is Back At His Desk
If you like any of the titles in the Batman universe, the new Detective Comics is definitely right up your alley. You really can't get any better than this. Batman is a dark character and he needs dark stories. Detective Comics really is a zinger in the "dark" department. It has all of the elements it needs to maintain it's dominance in The New 52. It doesn't really come as a surprise to me, but hopefully after reading this review, you won't wait any longer to go pick this up at your local comic shop (if there are any left).
The Good:
Do I need to mention the darkness again? Also, The Joker is back and better than ever. If you were hesitant at all to think that he is the most emotionally disturbed individual in comic book fiction (you weren't), then you won't be hesitant any longer. Batman regains his title of "detective" and proves that he's the best there is. The Joker has once again attracted Batman's attention, and I'm sure he will regret it later on in the arc. The book has a really crisp look to it, and I really like the team they have attached. I trust that we won't have to worry about too much change in art or story too early on in the series. It looks and reads smooth.
The Bad:
I really can't think of anything right now, but I am open to suggestions.
In Closing:
Everyone should at least give this book a try. If you like Batman at all, then it won't be a waste of your time. The New 52 has done well so far, and I don't see it disappointing us anytime soon. Long live DC!
