Painted faces.
Okay folks so here's another numero uno review! Back when they announced this reboot thing I didn't know if they were gonna reboot titles such as Detective Comics, Action Comics, or Batman because they were all so close to the 1000th issue! But nonetheless here it is! Okay so Bruce is Batman and he still does his usual thing of solving mysteries or whatever, but it seems the people and police are a bit more intolerable towards him. James Gordon is still friends and allies with Bruce. Batman is trying to track down Joker for all these disappearances and murder of people. He seems to be murdering people "close" to him. Batman catches Joker and sends him to Arkham Asylum, where it seems that Dr. Arkham hasn't gone crazy yet. The issue ends with the new villain Dollmaker getting revenge for Joker killing his son! And when I say revenge I mean cutting of Mister J's face revenge!
The GOOD!
What I love about any detective comic book is suspense and thrills! This book delivers both! It was cool to see Bruce against Joker! It felt classic! Joker's personality and who he is I think has changed a bit! He has become much more malevolent and just psychotic! Like his murders are getting more brutal! I've never seen such a bloody side of Joker before and it was a strange and cool change of pace to see that. There are still some classic elements in this series that hasn't left the old one. Like Bruce and Jim's relationship. I love the nostalgia! I also love Bruce's passion for his work and it's evident in this issue.
Art: The art is amazing! You can feel the emotion and gothamness in it! The only thing I didn't like was how big Joker's nose was! The cover was stunning! I loved it!
The BAD!
The bad for me, would be how similar this issue is to other Batman titles I've read. It feels as if nothing's changed. Now that poses a problem for me when I'm in a brand new universe supposedly.
The VERDICT!
I really loved this issue! Once you read this, you'll be perfectly in tune with the story and it's so easy to start from! I give it a 4.5 out of 5! Pick it up!
