He was captured by Fred Thorpe, in Equatorial Africa in 1953 he trained him as "Bobo the Detective Chimp" for his carnival act. The Detective Chimp was trained to answer some detective-related questions using a combination of signals and rewards. It gave the "discover the deepest secrets of the public". “DC” forms a strong bond with Thorpe, because he took care of him, and gave him a simpler life than in the jungle. During a trip in Florida, Rex, the Wonder Dog took him to the Fountain of Youth. He gained the ability to speak to all living creatures, even humans, in their own language along with eternal youth. His new found intelligence puts a damper on Bobo the success of the sideshow act, in at least once instance, he decides that a woman has in fact murdered her sister and will advise the local police about his insights.

Bobo was employed by the Bureau of Amplified Animals however it’s unknown how he left, or if it still exists.

After the death of Fred Thorpe, he began to work by himself as a chimp detective and even met detective, John Jones (actually the Martian Manhunter)

However being an ape, without civil rights and being unable to stand as a juridical person, he couldn't enforce unpaid bills.

He became an alcoholic when the public began to forget him . He also has a smoking habit. Detective Chimp is a member of Mensa, which entails that his Intelligence Quotient has been estimated to be higher than 98 percent of the human population.

He had a long-standing partnership with a group of four other detectives called the Croatoan Society.

He is currently a member of the group Shadow pact. It was his idea to throught the Hel of Fate so fate could choose the new Doctor Fate and fought the group Pinnacle with the rest of his team.
During the Infinite Crisis Chimp was at the Oblivion Bar drunk with the Phantom Stranger as a mouse in his hands. He tells the people in the club that they need  to fight or die. He stands up and asks everyone who will join him and Enchantress. Chimp is then telling the person who owns the club they dont have long. He says almost the rest of the magical community is in this bar and where do they think the Spectre will appear next. The man agress and tell everyone the bar is closing. Chimp takes Nightshade and tells the rest they will be back in an hour and teleports away. He is seen with Nightshade in a neighborhood and tells her she isnt compared to Enchantress in the power level or the experience. He then tells her he is looking for  agirl that can help as long as she gets permission from her dad. Chimp then goes to a dog and ask where is a certain house the dog tells him. Him and Nightshade then foes to a house and asks if Lori can come out and play. He tells Lori's father about her and then they are teleported by Nightshade to the fight. Chimp tells everyone what Black Alice can do and the plan to kill Spectre.

Powers and Abilities

Detective Chimp was given eternal youth from the Fountain of Youth. He has and incredibly high intelligence by human standards and is also a great detective on the levels like Batman and Ralph Dibny. He is able to communicate with every animal species in there own language. As a chimpanzee he is naturally stronger than a human
