Get "Slayed" by Slade.
"My words are smooth like SILK but it CUTS like a blade,
anyone to step to me is sure to get Slade.
I'm a deathstroke with my free Wil-Son,
Holding comicvine at Ransom". - Silkcuts
I had to start this review with one of the verses I laid down on one of the battle rap threads. I love Deathstroke, he was a character I enjoyed when I started reading comics in the late 80s, when my older cousin would read Teen Titans and brag how cool the character was and revising those moments my cousin talked about are still as cool as I remember. For the Deadpool fans who never read Deathstroke and are using 52 as your jump in this comic is a perfect example of the spirit of Deathstoke that inspired the creation of Deadpool in the first place.
This comic is action packed and works as a great primer to explain why Deathstroke is the Terminator. We are shown Slade Wilson in a situation where his former employers believe he is to old to be the best and "Can't cut it anymore". We see Slade in a team situation and I love how it is panned out. The accessibility is the key to this comic and its place in the 52, We are shown Deathstroke and Slade Wilson are one of the same, with or without his suit he is a killer and you can't take that out of him, from being a sharpshooter with a paper clip to ripping off a door of a plane, anyone who is on his list to kill is going to get "slayed". The verbal pun alone in his name makes him so cool.
One little treat I loved about this comic is the Simon Bisley cover, which feels like a homage to the movie franchise of Terminator. A series that came out after Slade was called the Terminator already. It is just a great moody cover.
This was an enjoyable read and I look forward to what Kyle Higgins and co will be doing with this character.
Cheers
