Major Badass
Slade Wilson is a mercenary. He can be hired to do anything. And it seems as if he's gotten old enough that he accepts to be partnered up with young and up-and-coming mercenaries because he's too old to do the jobs himself. Slade, however, disagrees.
The Good:
- Cover: Look at that cover by Simon Bisley. It is simply awesome, even though it has precious little to do with the actual comic book. Sure, Slade kills people. But this is just generic hero pose... albeit a very good one.
- Art: Joe Bennett is awesome. He give Slade a very menacing and evil look, yet manages to have him be sympathetic and clearly the protagonist of the book. Along with the writing, Bennett firmly establishes Deathstroke as a character who is more than just the guy who tears through masses of people, killing them.
- Twist: That twist with the Alpha Dawgs/Harmory people came as a huge surprise: Kyle Higgins, I applaud you for this.
- Adventure: This is unknown territory for all of us. Nobody knows who Slade is. We know who he is but not what makes him tick. This makes the book new and exciting and fun.
The Bad:
- Badassery: At points, I felt like Slade's badassness was overdone and bordered on the cheesy side. No wonder other people don't take himseriously anymore.
The Verdict:
This is a must-buy. It's fast, it's fun, it's a new character with a cool look who does awesome things. This is three bucks well-spent. So go get it.
