Deathlok

Character » Deathlok appears in 399 issues.

Deathlok is a Cyborg from both our reality and several alternative ones, whom wishes to gain his lost humanity, he is now currently working with the covert strike team X-Force.

Is it true that Marvel will be making a Deathlok movie in 2011?

It's not that I'm disappointed or anything. I'll gladly watch any movie Marvel gives me. I just think it's very strange that they chose a practically-unknown character like Deathlok for a blockbuster movie. They could have chosen to use that time and money to give a video to a character with a bigger pre-existing fan base, like Nightcrawler, or Hawkeye.

I have never understood this logic. The pre-existing fanbases aren't as big as people think. Deathlok may not have a lot of popularity in the realm of comics, but his story is perfect for a movie, regardless of which version you choose to make that movie about. Movies and comics are two completely different mediums. In comics, it's virtually impossible for a non-superhero property to make it big. That's not true in movies. So while a Hawkeye or Nightcrawler comic book would sell better than a Deathlok comic, that doesn't mean a Hawkeye or Nightcrawler movie would do better than Deathlok. Because truthfully, the majority of moviegoers don't know who Hawkeye OR Deathlok are.

Remember what reignited both the public and Hollywood's interests in comic books after Batman & Robin pretty much destroyed that interest? It wasn't the X-Men. It wasn't Spider-Man. It wasn't any of the big comic book properties. In fact, it was Blade -- a character who has never been able to sustain his own series for more than twelve issues either before or after the films came out. This character, who can't even sell a few hundred thousand issues made millions in box office sales and became a blockbuster that spawned two sequels and a television series.

Also, where do you get this idea that a movie needs a pre-existing fanbase to be successful? Star Wars, Terminator, Indiana Jones, The Matrix -- these are all big franchises and very successful films that did not have any pre-existing fanbases.

DEATHLOK! really? they still havn't made a Doc Strange, Moonknight or Luke Cage and DC still hasn't made a FLASH or WONDER WOMEN movie, but they are making a DEATHLOK!?!?!? as long as it isn't done by FOX or made by Joel Schumacher it will be a success.

I would love to see a Doc Strange, and Flash movie but Deathlok not so much.

There aren't many comics book movies I wouldn't watch. So Deathlok sounds cool to me, but there are definatly others I'd rather see first like Deadpool, Cable, or Luke Cage.
