Bye Bye Birdie.

Another normal day for Superman, fighting the Underworlders, while in Ohio a green-clothed fist beats its way out of an underground chamber. Once the monster is above ground, he instantly starts to destroy, crushing a bird in his hand, and snapping the neck of a deer. As it cuts a path across Ohio and Pennsylvania it continues maiming, and destroying. The news spreads quickly about this monster, and the Justice League Of America prepares to attack it.

After the league clean up a mess left by the beast, Maxima uses her psionic powers to track the creature. Attempting to establish first contact, the Warrior Queen finds that the monster's mind is nothing more than hate, death, and blood lust personified. As they move towards it, they see the monster's path of destruction. When the see the creature he throws a tree like a spear and crushes the Bug ship. This tosses the league around and they are left scrambling to save their own before they can regroup Guy Gardner charges into action and asks the beast to "take [his] pick cremation or burial".

The beast catches Guy off guard and moves faster than Guy can see. After that all hell breaks loose for the team. absent their strongest member Superman the League suffers. Several Leagues are knocked out and Blue Beetle is put in a coma. As the battle gets larger the League tries to fight the beast while saving lives of civilians. The battle is so big that Superman hears about it in Metropolis and goes into action. By the time he gets there Maxima has been convinced by Ice to take Blue Beetle to the hospital; everyone else was knocked out but Booster Gold who was hit so hard he was not even in sight. At this point Ice tries to hold the monster off all by herself.

Superman's Doomsday!

Superman runs into Booster in midair on the way to help and Booster Gold again dubs the creature Doomsday. The League starts to recover and fight. They even gather the remnants of the league Bloodwynd, Fire, and Guy Gardner, Booster and Superman shoot Doomsday with their respective energy projectile weapons. It does has little effect. Doomsday punches Superman, who stands unharmed, but when Doomsday kicks him in the stomach, Superman gets knocked into the air. Then Booster is made powerless by his suit getting destroyed and Guy's eyes have been swollen shut from Doomsday's first tossing his face into concrete.

Maxima comes back from saving Blue Beetle and helps fight Doomsday but is done in by a mistake she makes. Doomsday meanwhile makes his way to Metropolis, and Superman realizes he must stop him. Doomsday crushes everything. None of Metropolis' defenses can stop him. Not Supergirl, team Luthor, Cadmus or the Guardian. They fight a huge battle, shattering windows with their blows, and finally ending with one hit from each. Doomsday was seemingly dead. but so was Superman.

Superman #76: Funeral for a Friend

Supeman is dead? Really no he is reallr being reanimated/regenerated but no one knows about this. This issue starts on Christmas eve. Various heroes are there and Captain Marvel arrives. Ironically it is raining not snowing.Aquaman likes it and Green Lantern does too. Nightwing can't believe it and the new Robin Tim Drake in a moment out of charater decides not to remark for fear of sounding like an idiot (huh?). So since Supes is dead the heroes decide to get down to business whatever that may be at this point..

We then see a kid named Mitch whose house was destroyed in a fight between Superman and Doomsday in Ohio where we all know Supescreators were raised (yay Ohio).Mitch must have run away from home since he is seen walking the streets of Metropolis. Poor Mitch he feels its his fault Superman died. Some wacko has a press conference and says she is Mrs. Superman and that they lived in a New York penthouse and had vacations all over the world and he took her there to protect her from his enemies. We all know it is bull and Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen are there too. Of course we know it's a lie.

Lois leaves and Jimmy sees Mitch. They talk for a bit and Mitch wants to talk to someone who knew Supes and Jimmy takes him to Bibbo's to eat. We follow Lois who heads to Clark's apartment of course she is mourning over the loss of Clark. She opens the door and cries of course but also there are Ma and Pa Kent. They came to settle Clark's things in order as well as Lana Lang.

We head over to the Metropolis Post Office. Every Christmas, Superman would read the mail sent to him and try to make miracles happen. This is the business the heroes will try to do in Superman's absense. Of course Guy Gardner scoffs at the idea and Wonder Woman puts him in his place. There are letters for Supes to help find hidden cities and gold. There is even a letter from a lady who is terminal who wants Supes to find her lost son of over 30 years. For once Guy Gardner does something nice and he takes that case. Wonder Woman reads a letter from a woman whose house was destroyed she just wantedto thank him for saving her family's lifes. So they agree to put out a helping hand.

Back at Bibbo's resteraunt Jimmy and Mitch are eating sitting with Bibbo and talking. Jimmy finally remembers Mitch from being in the news due to Superman and Doomsday fight that destroyed his house. He still is feeling klike it's his fault and Bibbo does his best to make him feel better. Bibbo gives Mitch air fare to get home. Back at Clark's place Lana decides its best the world should know Clark and Supes are one and the same.Eventually though they decide to stay quiet about Clark's private life thanks to the calmness of Pa Kent's urging.

Wonder Woman reaches a apartment of a Roger Anderson. I guess he is Mitch's dad. Wonder Women tells him about his wife and kids and their house destroyed by Doomsday.

The story splits up as the heroes are doing what they can. Jimmy takes Mitch to Supe's memorial site. Green Lantern and Flash are building Mitch's mom a new house, talk about Christmas miracles. Wonder Woman brings Mitch's dad to the new house and apperantly things will work out and Cadmus Labs is underground of the memorial and is taking the casket of superman of course this will be Superboy.
