Will Robert Rodriguez Direct Deadpool?
"They sent me a script to read, [but] I've been really swamped with this other stuff... I've not decided whether ... anything I do would be after 'Spy Kids' ... So whether or not I would help develop or not is the question right now..."
With Rodriguez's busy schedule, it's hard to figure out when he'll have actual time to do this film. But the biggest question on everyone's minds is whether or not this film will actually be good. The character Deadpool was in X-Men: Wolverine Origins, but he received less than fantastic reviews simply because the character differed from his comic book counter-part a little too much. Rodriguez, who has a copy of an early first draft, thinks the film could be good.
"It was really good... It wasn't supposed to be sent out, it was one of those early drafts, they were probably like 'Robert just finished 'Predators,' let's see what he thinks at this early stage' ... I got an early sneak peek at it."
Aside from that, Rodriguez would like to have Reynolds in the film, and also would like to see the character break the fourth wall as Deadpool tends to do in the comic books quite a bit. However, nothing is for sure yet. Should Rodriguez direct the film?
Looking at his work on Sin City, if he does direct, he knows how to stay close to the source material.
Hey, I want his Machete shirt. I know it was recently announced that there's going to be a sequel to Predators, so I guess that's the busy stuff he swamps in. I guess he would be able to pull it off, if anything like that is going to happen.
"... the character differed from his comic book counter-part a little too much."
No kidding xD That was probably the worst rape of a character ever.
I really hope it will be Rodriguez. As said before: Sin City was pretty nice. And he might be able to pull of a true-to-the-comics Deadpool.
Wow it just goes to show how in the know I am...I didn't even know they were making a Deadpool movie. ^_^;
I think Rodriguez would be a good person to direct this. He just needs to find some time since he's gonna do another Spy Kids and then maybe Predators 2: Even More Predators.
I think Rodriguez would be perfect for Deadpool. If anyone can do the humor coupled with the violence that Deadpool needs its him. I mean look at Planet Terror, it was the better of the two Grindhouse movies and I'm pretty sure all the good parts of the ones he's done with Tarrantino were his idea.
I think he would be a good director for it, some of his stuff suits the kind of style Deadpool would need.
I'd rather see him make a Madman movie, but if he is going to make Deadpool like the comic, thats cool.
But really, Madman movie please.
" I smell about 12 months more of rumors and allegations "I smell years... The GL sequel is in the works already... why go and do Deadpool if you are already one of the big guns from DC
I haven't seen Predators but I'm not sure if Rodriguez has grown much as a director... but if you want irreverence mixed with hyper violent action for a popcorn flick not meant to be QT-level hype then he's your man.
There are only 2 directors that I would trust with this movie and those are Robert Rodriguez and
Quentin Tarantino.
