So how much of a good fighter is Deadpool, really?

I like Deadpool. I have been reading his current run and enjoy it alot. But so far he really just hasn't impressed me by kicking some ass. He mainly tricks the enemy or just runs away. So I just want to know, is Deadpool an actual badass? or is he just a simple character for comedic puposes?

#2 Posted by The Crimson Nutcase (813 posts) - - Show Bio

As cyclops said..."he's got moves" lol

#3 Posted by BiteMe-Fanboy (7897 posts) - - Show Bio

Yeah I noticed he got some pretty good moves. But like the only people he usually kills is just plain ole humans. Like when he was fighting all those Skrulls, while on that mission for Fury, he got captured and ended up running from them. (Though it was funny)....

No one? Come on I know there are alot of Deadpool fans on the Vine. Yall aren't going to defend Deadpool?

deadpool hasnt realy shows hes bad ass fighting skills like he used to in his original solo arc. Try and seee some of the original arc in that he shows that he can really fight , of late hes more about the comedy than kicking ass

Deadpool is like Blade. He's not a master of anything or anything special but he is sufficient in h2h combat and with the use of several different weapons. Can he compete with Marvel's elite? Yes.How? I don't know, but I guess if they let Blade,The Punisher, and Nick Fury do it..it's ok.They haven't had the level of training that some of the people in the top tier have had but they are nearing those levels.

@Vance Astro:  blade had his entire life from being a child to adult training to fight learning martial arts and shooting adn sword skills , deadpool also has had  special forces training while he was in weapon x

I'm aware of what type of training they had.I'm saying that the training THEY received isn't comparable to that of Marvel's top tier.Wolverine,Shang Chi,Iron Fist,Captain America,Black Panther are all better trained.I'm just naming a few.

@Vance Astro:  while i agree hes not top teir in terms of abilty his entire early figh experience was either kill or die in the deadpool , hes special ops training is the same that wolverine and sabertooth had  as well , granted logan and cap have loads more experience but they have been around forever. Iron fist spent an entire peroid of live training to fight adn black panther is enmpowerd" herb/spirit panther " and enhanced " with gear" which adds in his actual abilty to fight. In the early deadpool issues hes shown to be able to handle big groups of armed mercenaries easily  without an unbreakable shield of an inpentrable suit for cover , he agilty and unique style in early issues are what kept him going.

So I guess I should check out his earlier stuff from like the 90's to get a load of Deadpool kicking ass?

#11 Posted by EdwardWindsor (14428 posts) - - Show Bio

yep early deadpool kickass , modern deadpool ok but actaul fighting abilty isnt shown to same lvl at all

#12 Posted by TheJuggernautpunch (6133 posts) - - Show Bio

Deadpool is a joke . He is funny , i love his comics ( especially "Merc with Mouth " limited series ) , but i never thought of him as a badass . Character for fun , but not a badass fighter .

Yea I enjoy Deadpools current comics but man. I need some action also to level out all the comedy.. Nothing but comedy just doesnt go good with me.

Nah. I like Deadpool. Just didn't want to drop a character that interest me. But i'm going to do what lazystudent said and check out his earlier stuff, perhaps it will interest me a bit more.

I like the comedy, don't get me wrong, but I was just wondering about his actualy fighting styles, for his newer stuff rarely shows it.

@BiteMe-Fanboy: Even in the early comics he is not badass . Maybe more serious , but not awesome in fighting skills .

Eh, even so I'm going to check it out. Deadpool is pretty cool. Going to give the guy a chance.

So anyway. Back to his fighting skills.. What some known battles that Deadpool was in that showed his skills at fighting?
#18 Edited by CrimsonComedian (328 posts) - - Show Bio

If there's one thing I know about Deadpool, it's this; he'll only get serious when he has to. Like in that 4 or 5 issue fight between him and Wolverine. He was kinda goofin' around and toying with him. But towards the end, holding him over the pool - he got serious >:|

None of that is comparable.Special Ops training doesn't compare to years of training under credible masters in several different martial arts. The fact that Deadpool is able to compete with Logan is utterly ridiculous especially seeing as how once he became a solo character away from his days an X-Force villain his showings against people who aren't as good as Logan don't match up.In Deadpool's early issues he was shown taking out mercenaries easily but he was also almost killed by two teenage girls. His showings are ridiculously inconsistent.

1.Almost all of Deadpool's fights with Wolverine accept the one in Origins show his skills.
2.His fight with Domino and the one with Shatterstar in X-Force
3.His fight with Bloodwraith and Black Knight using Sword (I believe this was in an Avengers annual)
4.His fight against the Secret Avengers during Civil War
5.His Fights with Taskmaster in his comics (Although I think they are ridiculous)

That's about it.Most of his other fights he either lost or played around during them.

he's such a badass fighter that  gambit has so much respect for Deadpool's fighting abilities that he once paid him off rather than risk battling him, admitting that fighting Deadpool is tantamount to suicide.

#22 Posted by Man of Lengend (1001 posts) - - Show Bio

yes he is a badass he can fight ironfist to a stand still twice... beat wolverine a few times and sabertooth  .... kicked cap in the balls haha...  beat taskmaster goes toe to toe with cable alot ... gambit thought it would be suicide to fight deadpool ... so yea great fighter

He never fought Iron Fist to a standstill. Both times they fought their fights were interrupted and Iron Fist was clearly winning.
He only beat Taskmaster because of some "unpredictability" plot device and Wolverine has beaten him just as many times.
He kicked Cap in the balls because Cap wasn't expecting it..they weren't fighting and Gambit isn't that great of a fighter.
Lastly he didn't display any fighting skill against Sabretooth. All he did was shoot someone who was unarmed.
So no..he's not really that good.

He's a fairly good fighter. He's not badass and he's not a GREAT fighter. That would be an overestimation of his abilities. There are very few characters with actual training that he can actually stand toe to toe with h2h.He's had some good fights but only with characters on his level,Black Knight,Bullseye,The Punisher,Domino,Shatterstar,Silver Sable,T-Ray,and so on and so forth.Basically what I'm saying is he's good but he's not THAT good.

How do people base someone's fighting ability on something Gambit said? Gambit's not on Deadpool's level. That would be like me saying Daredevil is a badass fighter because Thor and Captain Marvel gave him his props. They aren't good fighters. They aren't even nearing his level. How is their opinion on his fighting skill worth anything? You're a good fighter when other good fighters say you're good.Black Panther is one of the best fighters in Marvel..he gave Shang Chi,Daredevil, and Captain America their props that's something to talk about. When someone that is a good fighter acknowledges you would be a match or even beat them..that's when you have something.

@Vance Astro: i didnsay deadpool can compete with logan , all i said was they had the same black ops training.  I also stated that logan and cap have  loads more experience. Dont get me wrong,  as i said i dont think wade is top tier but i think hes still preety good. Your right about inconsistancy also he has betean some good fighters but also been ko'ed by a  two girl with a hotdog so hes not the model of fighting consitancy but that doesnt mean he isnt still good when hes written right and not into gag fighting.

as said above gambit didnt want a piece of the action and hes no push over
even taskmaster struggle to read his next move
and has been shown to be nearly as agile as spidey when they has a little scrap way back

If you want to see good Deadpool fights you need to look at some of his early stuff. I have to say that the newer comics  have drop his credibility as a fighter. He use to take out large crowds of people using just his fists if he wanted to. I think with the Pool-o-Vision thing, he thinks too much.

I've been following deadpool for about 12 years so I have to say I am somewhat of a fan.  I know this much for sure, it is implied that Wade was naturally a good athlete at a young age which tailor made him to be a naturally exceptional soldier of fortune.  He has an excellent ability to learn things, and he was good before he got his healing factor with hand to hand combat and most weapons.  He travelled the world and he even was a sumo wrestler and body gaurd in japan, picking up skills along the way ever heard of wolf of the rice wine?   His problem and his solution at the same time is his mental instability, it makes everything about deadpool unpredicatble down to his movements.  Most master martial artist may lose to him because of his sparadic skills, along with deadpools ability to talk and fight at the same time distracting his opponents he's a problem.  On the flip side deadpool is insane and takes nothing serious due to said insanity, he only comes through in clutch situaitions even failing in some of his own endeavors.  He's to crazy to be a master...  All and all I 'm also a fan of wolverine and he's smacks him around a bit with little effort or care outside of fun and he's real good with fighting on the run or in fast CQB situations.  Deadpool is simply a master at being deapool, and most of the time it works he's a bad ass..-Postaman out...

See the deadpool secret invasion tie in. He is a bad ass. Took down a whole ship on his own and a super skrull. He also fought cable in civil war, got the drop on the xmen in deadpool 18, got blood from the hulk (who was sick) stood up to Hercules out witted hydra and aim, played Osborne, had a pretty good draw with Spiderman who is nearly impossible to hit minus super speedsters.

So I would say he's a bad ass. He just doesn't care about being hit due to his healing factor and he's crazy.

"Deadpool would be the most dangerous man in the universe if it wasn't for the fact that he's insane and can't think straight.

I disagree, with Fury, DeadPool's insanity helped him figure out Arcades game because he can break the 4th wall, it also prevented him from being cloned in the skrull invasion, and most of all it stuffs out psychological attacks from Professure X, Emma Frost types who can't handle all of his minds.  Well Maybe those two could but normal psychs couldn't. It's also allowed him to trick many opponents. It's hard to play him or manipulated him with anything but money because he's not predictable.

Plus no matter how clear his head was, he'd be a long way form the Sentry, Silver Surfer, War Hulk, Dr Strange, Thor, Thanos etc.

Which is pretty wrong because what makes DP so dangerous is the fact that he will do the craziest things and not think twice about them.

But getting to the question, I do remember reading a  Cable and Deadpool TPB, I think it was #36 to be exact, but he captured all of those Army guys and had them watch as he fought Taskmaster with his hands and legs tied, which was pretty interesting when I read it, but it did show that Deadpool has some nice moves, and was able to beat Taskmaster and crack jokes all at the same time.

Not a master of anything???? Uhhhhh...He wields two katanas very efficiently. Do you know how difficult that is to do even for the most experienced martial artists? So he's most certainly a master at sword wielding and some form(s) of martial arts. You must not know much about the character because he is also a master marksman. His ability with firearms is arguably his biggest strength. And last but not least and most importantly, he's a MASTER assasin. That is an undebatable fact along with my previous points made towards what he has mastered. And its not immpossible to be crazy and smart at the same time esspecially when it comes to fighting. If he really wanted Cap dead, he's dead. If he really wanted SPIDEY dead (yes, Spidey), he's dead. He's bested (BESTED, not necessarily defeated or kicked their ass) some of Marvel's most esteemed heavy hitters such as Juggernaught and Hulk. And if you can go toe to toe with Cable then your a pretty damn good fighter. BiteMe-Fanboy, Deadpool is VERY badass (and funny). As Stryfe puts it, "Deadpool is chaos incarnate".

He's not a master of anything. He may be a "weapons master" but he's not a martial arts master. He's mastered 0 styles. What ever style he uses is made up,probably a combination of random styles. All you're doing is naming a bunch of things and putting master in front of it.Deadpool is a very good fighter but you're obviously over-estimating him.

Ooookay, so you say he's not a master of anything but then immediatly say he may be a weapons master, haha! And I'm only putting master in front of what he's mastered. Its a fact, FACT dude, that he's a master assasin, marksman, and swordsman. And when heroes, villians, etc go up against each other they're not limited to their respective "martial arts style" (its not the UFC) so I'm not sure why you feel he's needed to have mastered a specific martial art to be considered a good fighter within the comic universe. Spidey hasn't mastered a martial art but, for some reason, he beats almost everybody writers put him up against. You also state that whatever style he uses is a combo of styles and made up. Well, I'm sure he's the master of that made up style, haha! And, in case you haven't noticed, comics are made up. And I'm not sure which part of my previous post leads you to believe I'm over-estimating him so if you could, please explain.

I didn't contradict myself. When I said he was not a master I was speaking strictly of hand to hand combat.Marksmanship and Swordsmanship have nothing to do with it which is why saying he is a weapons master really has no relation to what I said about him NOT being a master of anything.I don't know what you mean when you say heroes and villains aren't limited to a respective style..because that really has nothing to do with why I brought up mastery.Every martial artist\good fighter in comics that is considered CREDIBLE has mastered some form of unarmed combat.Deadpool is one of very few exceptions to the rule.He is a good fighter but he has not been said to have mastered anything.Deadpool doesn't beat almost everybody writers put him against.I can probably name over 50 characters he's fought and not beaten. You're over-estimating Deadpool because you think he has an outstanding track record. He hasn't beaten very many opponents with actual skills. You said that if he wanted to kill Cap he could. The only way that would be true is with a plot device.Cap would have to not see him coming.Under normal circumstances Deadpool has no chance of killing Captain America.

@Vance Astro:
Check my post cause I didn't say Deadpool beats almost everyone writers put him up against. I said SPIDEY does and Spidey hasn't mastered any form of unarmed combat or martial arts. Niether has Hulk, Iron Man, Ghost Rider or even Silver Surfer. So do you not consider these guys credible or good fighters? We may be disagreeing on what we consider fighting cause when I think of heroes or villians fighting I don't picture them putting down their weapons and ignoring their powers for a good ol' round of fisticuffs. And yeah, if Deadpool wants Cap dead, he's dead. And what would you consider a "normal" circumstance? They just fought and they equally beat the shit out of each other with Deadpool having the upperhand at the end before Moon Knight interupted. He then had his ass tied up and could've chopped/blown his head off anytime he wanted to. And I feel the opposite, the only way I see Cap winning is with a plot device. I din't say Deadpool would win in an MMA match (haha) I said if he wants him dead...HE'S dead! He's arguably (probably) the best assasin out there and he CAN'T DIE! An immortal master assasin wants a master martial artist dead...hmmm...now pitch me a plot device in which Mr. Rogers survives that one. CAP DIES! And if you could, please list those 50 characters. Hell, I'll settle for 25.

You'd be wrong about that.Spider-Man loses alot of fights. To drive the point home..it's been proven in comics that characters that are actually skilled in martial arts who in some form of combat give Spider-Man alot of trouble. You actually would have been better off not correcting the statement.Even if they are alot weaker than he is or lacking something physically. You actually would have been better off not correcting the statement..The Hulk,Iron Man,Ghost Rider and Silver Surfer win fights because of their powers and by out thinking their opponents.Iron Man and Hulk actually have some level of skill.I don't think anyone would consider them credible fighters as you put it.I see alot of over-estimation in your post when you say things like "If Deadpool want's Cap dead. He's dead" and how you over-analyze the recent fight they had and you say he's the best assassin out there.I don't believe any of those things to carry the truth.Cap isn't a martial artist he's a veteran hero. Many men have tried to kill Captain America...some of which I believe to be more skilled than Deadpool but the Red Skull was only able to seemingly kill him with a plan and a set up.

@Sempurna:

I said Deadpool is arguably the best assasin out there. Who are those you consider to be better? And Cap IS a martial artist. He's mastered a few martial arts therefore, he's a martial artist. And I know why Surfer, Hulk, etc. win fights. Hulk doesn't need to have mastered martial arts because of his strength. Iron man doesn't need to have mastered martial arts because of his genius and ingenuity yadda yadda yadda so on and so forth. And sure characters like Wolverine (who has got to be the best fighter) have given Spidey issues. I know this. I guess what I should have said and what I meant was that Spidey wins a fight, and puts up one, he shouldn't sometimes. I'll admit, not the most valid point towards my argument. About the whole Deadpool wanting to kill Cap thing, I still believe it to be true. We've got one guy who's a master martial artist and genius tactician against an immortal with a healing factor who's an extraordinary hand to hand combatant and master with weapons and assasination. I'd like to know how Cap gets outta that alive. I'm not saying it's gonna be easy and I never said he was necessarily a better fighter, I just said if he wants him dead he'll end up dead eventually. If Deadpool wants Cap dead so bad that he's never gonna stop till he is then Cap can win 25 to 1 but that 1 time 'Pools gonna kill. Can we at least agree on that? Shit. This whole thing has gotten blown way out of proportion anyway. And I'll take full responsibility for that. We're all entitled to our opinions and I've considered this a very good, friendly debate. I think Deadpool's an excellent fighter when he's not fucking around. That's my opinion and I should have kept it at that. Go ahead and post back but after that, let's just agree to disagree. It's all make believe anyway, haha!
