Is deadpool a fad?
The things is Wolverine has been in his "Wolverine phase" for what? 10 years? Will this last for Deadpool too? I hope not. This over saturation is killing his originality. They're watering him down to spoon feed him to the masses.
If they keep goin' like they are with him, every issue will turn with him holding a gun to his head. By that I mean, they've ran out of stories and jokes and plots to poke fun at...
since mavel is overkilling him--literaly as well- he might turn out to be
i dont think of it as a fad more like a......where has this character been all my life?
deadpool was just a benchwarmer but now moved up to starting position. but they cant keep deadpool as this idiot with guns..they need to go back to basics
Sadly, I don't think there's going to be any decrease in Deadpool's popularity... which means his back issues will stay ridiculously over-priced. Curses!!

i know...escpecially new mutants #98
I like Deadpool because the character, not because of him being popular.
This popularity will be his downfall if the movie isn't good though.
Deadpool has been around a lot longer than people realize. He is just now being brought to people's attention for a number of reasons. I don't think he's going anywhere, will some of the books die off? Well we can only hope so because as everyone knows, too much of a good thing is a bad thing. At the rate DP is going, he will be down to guest spots here and there, but I do hope that he continues his own book or maybe gets back with Cable because the chemistry those to share is perfect.
" @xerox-kitty said:on the up side I've noticed the prices drop on previously popular characters. I've seen some older Wolverine issues for much cheaper than they used to be since Mr. Wilson has bumped him from the limelight. It's all cyclical and the key seems to be buying those key issues during a low point in the character's popularity."Sadly, I don't think there's going to be any decrease in Deadpool's popularity... which means his back issues will stay ridiculously over-priced. I actually dont like him very much, but i find his character interesting.
I think he turned into a fad. At first Deadpool was awesome, but bad writers gave him a new image and killed him.
Now the only Deadpool you see is a cracked-out version of the original.
i don't think it is a fad per say... but i don't think he will remain this high selling/popular for ever.
it all depends on the writing/creativity with the character. even as a deadpool fan myself i've gotta say, a lot of the books recently are trash.
but saying that i'm really looking forward to Wade Wilsons War and Deadpool Noir. they seem to be exploring the depth and tortured side of the character more... instead of the silly side.
because see there is two sides to Deadpool.
The shallow, popular with a wider audience side a la Michael Bay movies. ( btw i don't like his movies)
Then there is the deeper, more tortured, manic depressive side like i dunno, David Lynch movies.
The perfect Deadpool style is a mix of both of those. The blockbusting action and insane humour... mixed with the guy who is literally crying his eyes out under the surface but doesn't want anyone to know so he acts like a clown crossed with John McClane
most people are responding to his sudden rush of popularity and getting the wrong idea of the character because that popularity came from X-Men Origins Wolverine. Pretty soon, moms will be taking their 4 year olds to the theatre to see Deadpool. It was a well kept secret. Let's make sure it doesn't come to that.
Yes...Deadpool is a fad.If you consider all the characters that are more popular than him..all of them have significant roles at their respect companies. He doesn't.Characters who don't even have their own comics have more important roles in the Marvel U than Deadpool.
@Vance Astro: that doesn't make deadpool a fad... what you just said there is completely irrelevant to the point. no one can judge whether deadpool is a fad... UNTIL his popularitly nose dives. and that's IF it does. a fad is something that is popular for a while... then just dies off. like limp bizkit or something.
seriously... just because he isn't important to the Marvel U at large has nothing, LITERALLY nothing to do with him being a fad or not. and like i said in another thread, the fact that he is so popular and high selling DESPITE not being a major player in the MU at large or not being part of a big super team... is a testament to the character as an individual.
Fad? we wish!
Think of all the people who thought wolvie was a fad........and look how HUGE he is now to Marvel.......
" @CaptainCockblock: his new series was selling upwards of 60k a month BEFORE the Wolverine movie.Deadpool's a fad because his character brings nothing to the table that would keep his popularity going. If not for other characters..Deadpool would have been cancelled already.

why can't other character's have fame, what does a character have to do to make it into the so called A List! do they really need to be over 20-30 year's old do they really need to save the planet over and over for poeple to like them as a charater! why i ask do people think deadpool is a fad..?

Deadpool doesn't have to be 20-30 years old or save the planet. He just has to do something significant that will keep his popularity going. There isn't a single character in comics that can survive off of worthless cameo appearences. If that was true..She-Hulk wouldn't have gotten cancelled.People think Deadpool is a fad because his popularity is undeserved. In all honesty Marvel can do for any character what they did for Deadpool. They could any character in a bunch of comics he doesn't belong in and boost their popularity. However that's going to get old. That's why there are so many threads about Marvel's over-saturation of the market with Deadpool stuff. It's a good gimmick but eventually people catch on.
@captaincockblock: dead pool will rated r.. Ain't no kid gonna see that..
And4 years later he's still as popular as ever. Deadpool 4 LIFE!!
You mean, 4 years later and he's dead...
@superadam: he'll be back and you can continue to hate him lol.
@superadam: he'll be back and you can continue to hate him lol.
He'll be back once this dispute between Marvel and Fox is over. But considering they've JUST announced the Deadpool movie, that could take a while.
Seeing when this thread was made I don't think the fad is not going away anytime soon lol Less people are calling me Spider-Man when I go to conventions and actually know who Deadpool is. A Pg-13 version showed up in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon...for children...I'm happy to see more Deadpool fans however when all I hear is "He's funny and breaks the 4th wall all the time" I kinda get disappointed. Unintended consequence of the popularity boom which lead to his own video game and movie so...who am I to complain? XD I'm sure Avengers' fans have felt the same way since the movies came out.
He's surpassed Wolverine in being a overly used character to fanboys to abuse in debates. He's surpassed Spidey in being a modern relevant audience surrogate for kids and teens plus a internet avatar, so mostly likely he is not. I hope he isn't though.
Idk I never knew about the character until hearing about the movie and learning about his popularity. Now I kinda want to know more about him he looks kinda cool.
