I think those are all the writers who have written a story involving Deadpool from October and September, If I missed one that you want to vote for the go for it. You can only pick a writer who has written a Deadpool story recently. I just want to see who you guys think is the best Deadpool writer we've got today.
Deadpool
Character » Deadpool appears in 3332 issues.
Wade Wilson is a former test subject of the Weapon X program, where he received his regenerative healing factor through the scientific experiments conducted upon him. A prominent enemy, ally and later, member of X-Force. He's famous for breaking the Fourth Wall.
Best Deadpool Writer From the Couple of Months?
That's interesting, most people (on here) seem to hate Way's stuff." 100% Daniel Way.... Parker comes close, but Way is top dog. "
I'm going with Remender for now because he's got 100% classic Deadpool down. No voices, pop culture references, smartassery, and moves like a ninja.
Close though is Parker. Damn good that Gorilla Man Team Up.
Fred Van Lente did Deadpool team up 899.
I'd be stuck between Mike Benson and him.
Swierczynski did a great job with DP/Cable 25. WW's war was alright.
I'm lazy to type it all out but typing this took more time then that would have.
" I truly think that Deadpool Volume 1: Secret Invasion was the most humorous Deadpool trade out there. ""How--how did you free your hand?"
"Ancient chinese secret."
I cracked up at that. Oh, and the 'ITS PRONOUNCED, EYE-GOR!'. Aside from that it was just ok. Classic DP ftw.
For me it is Daniel Way. He really knows how to write the character. There may be no character in comics more dependent on the writing than Deadpool. He is one of my favorite characters, but if done improperly, he can be lame. It is hard to involve his type of comic relief in a serious superhero universe such as Marvel without it sounding forced or unrealistic.
You're entitled to your opinion as to which writer you prefer, but to say that he really knows the character ... that's very arguable.
With this said my favorite writers are Duane Swierczynski ( based off on the modern Daniel Way Deadpool, but absolutely the most entertaining Deadpool story I've read in a while ) and Rick Remender ( because he dared to go back to what Deadpool used to be, instead of the more modern Deadpool we see now in all other books ).
@Edamame:
Eh, the plot was a bit out there, especially the sci-fi stuff, but I liked the overall development of Deadpool from mouthy merc to a guy with emotional problems, depth, a guy trying to overcome his problems and limitations and fears. Way's Deadpool has none of that.
The 'Eye-Gore" thing is from Young Frankenstein. It's one of the very few pop culture references Way uses.
@Darthtravis:
I have the exact opposite problem with Way: Every bit of comedy he attempts to do with Deadpool is forced. The jokes and setup, and even style of humor is nothing but in your face, mindless, and just plain juvenile. A lot of the older Deadpool writers mixed it up with subtlety, wit, *and* the juvenile humor, as well as had some of the seriousness in there. Daniel Way's Deadpool is nothing but fart jokes, explosions, and treating Deadpool like a shallow idiot.
Though I think he was the worst writer to ever tackle Deadpool, you might enjoy Buddy Scalia's run on Deadpool. From the Roadrunner/Wyle E Coyote issue, to the 'Kid Deadpool' stuff, his run was just mindless stuff, but at least there was a plot.
This might answer your question:
"Why did the nickel jump off the building and the dime didn't? The dime had more cents."
Epic opener for an issue.
Yup. If Remender keeps things going as they are, he'll probably become a favorite Deadpool writer to a lot of his more "old school" fans. Of course all the new fan boys will probably be turned off by his version of Deadpool since there are no voices, pool-o-vision, etc.
So I really hope that Uncanny X-Force keeps up it's rating enough to keep on going. Since there 'll be a lot of people who 'll refuse to pick up the book because of Deadpool 's presence and the presence of lesser known characters like Fantomex. There 'll also be quit a bit of ( Daniel Way's ) Deadpool fanboys who 'll drop the book after a while because he is too different from the only Deadpool they know. And of course a lot of people that have read the previous X-Force volume will compare it to that, which was pretty amazing to most people, and thus set a very high bar for the ongoing.
Kelly mixed it up and had a lot of wit and slapstick and threw in the silly juvenile humor too.
The best part of Kelly's run was the honest to god "Merc With a Mouth" part. Way's Deadpool is too busy talking to himself to talk his opponents silly or distract them. He focuses on a wacky plan and acting like a idiot on meth. I miss the 'talk the villains into frustration/annoyance/angry wrath' Deadpool Classic.
Have you tried checking out Simone's stuff? She was a mix too, but did sorta stick to the comedy more than anything.
Best ever Deadpool? Joe Kelly, hands down. Kidnapping a pre cog then taking him to Monte Carlo to fleese casinos whilst disguised as Ricardo Montalban? That's humour. Not silly, Mad Magazine esque crap like Daniel Way's. And instead of arguing with voices in his head (that have no explanation BTW, they just appeared out of no where) Deadpool used to babble on and on about something completely irrelevent... whilst shooting people in the face. Thats what Deadpool should be. Thats how he got the nickname "merc with the mouth".
My current favourite writers? Duane Swier... dunno how to spell it. David Lapham, Rick Remender and Mike Benson. I like Van Lente and Parkers work with DP too but they haven't really had the chance to do proper stories with him.
