Lately I've noticed in Deadpool comics (most recently Deadpool & Cable and Way's run) that they seem to be going over the top on breaking the fourth wall with him. Deadpool & Cable: referring to all of his ongoings and mini-series. I just think it was over-the-top. And Way is definitely taking advantage of it. Anyone else agree?
Deadpool
Character » Deadpool appears in 3332 issues.
Wade Wilson is a former test subject of the Weapon X program, where he received his regenerative healing factor through the scientific experiments conducted upon him. A prominent enemy, ally and later, member of X-Force. He's famous for breaking the Fourth Wall.
Abuse of breaking the 'fourth wall'.
It'll be hard to read as a back issue or trade paperback, because those specific jokes about getting more titles will be out of context. People will still get them, but it'll be odd. Sometimes I think that some writers only think about a quick cheap gag instead of a long lasting joke that'll be funny in all occasions.
" I don't recall Daniel Way doing that many 4th wall jokes in his run. "He doesn't. The only notable example I can remember is during the first issue, where its like--
Deadpool: All you can do when your limb gets chopped off is put it in a pocket and hope to get it sewn back on. Pockets are great. Ain't that right, Rob?
*Looks at audience*
"My feets is a rainbow of power!"
" @BenYang: and also in issue # 19 when he first meets up with spidey he reference's their last apperance lol thats just my 2 cents... "Ohhhh yeeaaaahhhh. I forgot about that. I was mainly thinking of the pouche joke in issue #2 and the Ed Brubaker joke in issue #15.
yea, but still now that they have so many deadpool series it must be getting hard to produce the quality material us fans all love. *sigh*
still at least i can tell you why he's getting so much popularity. marvel has been having and incredibly hard time bringing new characters into the mix. they just never seem to gain much popularity. so the market is getting stale, there putting less and less into each comic, dragging out a simple storyline over 15 comics or more, and reusing the same characters over and over. why do you think its so hard to kill a superhero, because they're just that awesome? no! its because they're so hard to replace. enter deadpool. because they cant make successful new characters they're turning to the characters nobody paid attention to to shake things up, and so far deadpool seems to be their best option for a "new" star. hence the overexposure. just pray he comes out of the popularity craze unscathed.
