Deadpool #2 (second print variant)

There's a lot of Deadpool lovin' these days

I have stated my return to Deadpool.  I only read a handful of the Deadpool/Cable series.  Both of the issues in his new series have sold out.  I wonder if more people are buying it or are people falling for the variant cover gimmick?  Do people have such a love for Deadpool that they feel the need to purchase both covers?  This was a problem in the 90s that almost destroyed the market.

When an issue gets a reprint, are people that already own it buying this version as well?  I know in the past, sometimes the reprint could actually have more value than the original due to a shorter print run.  I don't think that will be the case these days.  Comics aren't worth as much as they used to be.  Part of that is because of the print run.  Also there are more comics kept in better condition than in the 'old days.'

Either way, I hope that Daniel Way and Paco Medina keep up the great work they're doing.  I'm curious about the next arc (after the Skrulls).  If the quality keeps up, I'll continue reading and praising.

Deadpool #2

As Good as the First?

It seems like a lot of people liked the first issue.  It even won me over.  We were left a little surprised at Deadpool's willingness to help the Skrulls invade Earth.  But then, since he's a little off in the head, it wasn't too much of a surprise.  The question is, what will he do next.  Another question is, are the Skrulls pulling one over on Deadpool or is it the other way around?

One of Deadpool's strongest assets is that he is unpredictable.  That's what can help sell this comic.  We do get a brief re-cap of his origin in the first few pages.  I have to say I'm glad Daniel Way didn't go the cliche route and have it take up space in the first issue.   From the cover we get the impression that the Skrulls will use Deadpool's strengths as a killing machine to further their invasion.  That in itself is a scary thought.  An army of Deadpools.  Who could lead such an army?  I'll let you take a guess.

I enjoyed seeing Deadpool in his new role.  But how does this comic stack up?  Will this Secret Invasion tie-in change the outcome of the war?  Probably not.  It's not essential reading as far as the main story goes but as far as being entertaining, it's pretty much a must have.  Daniel Way continues to capture the essence of Deadpool's character.   Paco Medina's art captures the mayhem perfectly.  He has the right amount of detail mixed with the hilarity of Deadpool's world.

4.5! Woooo!
This volume is off to a good start.  Again it's not essential reading but it was highly entertaining and that's what a comic should be.  I had fun.  I'm going to up my rating a bit from last month and give this issue a 4.5 out of 5

Second Printing 'Variant' Coming

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the first issue.  I suppose the time I took away from Deadpool may have been enough to make me want to read about his "adventures" once again.  Daniel Way has captured his essence.  There is still so much we need to find out after the first issue.  My first question is did Deadpool know the Skrulls would be there?  If he did know, how did he know?  Perhaps he was just making everything up on the spot.  That wouldn't be too surprising for Deadpool.

We did have a little twist at the end that some may have seen coming.  Daniel Way mentioned at Comic-Con that he'll soon be getting the attention of everyone and will be "running ramant throughout the Marvel Universe."  Could it have anything to do with this issue?  Hmmm...

What did everyone think of the issue?

So if you missed the first issue, Marvel is reprinting it naturally.  It will be in stores on October 15th.

Fox Looks For More Franchises

Looks like Fox didn't have the best summer at the box-office.  They're looking to broaden their superhero movies.  I think it goes without saying that we want a Deadpool movie.  Even though we haven't really seen Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool yet, I'm sure he's going to nail it.

As far as a 'young' X-Men spin-off, I hope they're talking about our beloved X-Men but younger rather than the actual "YOUNG X-MEN" comic.

A re-vamp of Daredevil would be cool.  The last wasn't too bad but could've and should've been way better.

Here's what Variety reported:

Though Fox has no plans for a major overhaul, the studio has scheduled a strategy meeting to assess the status of its superheroes, a group sorely missed this summer. On the agenda, Fox will mull the possibility of more "X-Men" spinoffs, including a young-X-Men project as well as "Deadpool," based on a character played by Ryan Reynolds in "Wolverine." The studio is even considering reviving the "Daredevil" property.

Deadpool #1

In stores Wednesday 9/10

Believe it or not, I'm not the biggest Deadpool fan out there.  I like him but sometimes get annoyed by how he's written.  I don't think he's the ultimate fighter and shouldn't be portrayed that way.  I'm not saying he can't hold his own in a fight but sometimes I feel the writers exaggerate his skills.

I really liked Deadpool when he first came on the scene.  Then he started getting annoying.  But he's supposed to be.  That's who he is.  He is like a crazed Spider-Man, in terms of the witty banter.  The problem is, Deadpool's banter doesn't always make sense to others besides himself.

I know there are several people waiting for this issue.  I have read it, thanks to Marvel.  Deadpool is back to his usual business.  As he's shooting and killing, we do get treated to his inner conversations.  It almost makes you wonder how he manages to get anything done when he's so deep in conversation with himself.  This is what makes Deadpool who he is.  You almost have to wonder, who's more psychotic, Deadpool or the Joker.

This issue obviously is the beginning of a bigger story.  We don't have all the details as to how Deadpool arrived in the stadium.  Did he know the Skrulls were coming there or were they just lucky (or unlucky) that he was?  Can Deadpool change the outcome of the Invasion's success?  My question is, should he be able to?  This goes back to the exaggeration I mentioned earlier.

Daniel Way does a great job capturing Deadpool's multiple personalities.  Maybe I missed out but I only read a handful of Cable and Deadpool.  I just needed some time away from him.  This is looking like a good way to bring him back into my life.  Paco Medina's art is nice too.  How can you not smile at seeing the Pool-O-Vision in action?  This series has promise.  As long as it doesn't try to get too serious, I'll continue reading.

4.5 out of 5.

There's an interesting twist and you could almost say there's a new direction for Wade.

Here's the first few pages:

A SECRET INVASION TIE-IN!
"ONE OF US" PART 1

This post relates to: Deadpool, Gambit, Wolverine

Looks like the word is that Taylor Kitsch will be playing everyone's favorite character, Gambit.  At least we know there's a lot of love for him around here.  Not sure how I feel about that.  He was supposed to be in X2 and then X3 but it just never happened.  I'd be worried about them using him like they did Psylocke in X3.  Don't throw him in just to have him.  What does he have to do with Wolvie's origin anyways?  I'll admit I don't watch Friday Night Lights so I don't know how this dude's acting skills are.  But RedLAMP likes the show.  There's also the question as to how much acting he'd really have to do.  My fingers are crossed it will turn out for the best.  I know lots of folk wanted Josh Holloway (Sawyer from LOST).  Maybe they just wanted to go a younger route.

There's also rumors that Ryan Reynolds (one of my fav's) will be doing a cameo as Deadpool.  Hmmm...it could work.  He could pull the "merc with a mouth" bit.  It's too bad things didn't work out for him as the Flash.  I'd be really curious if this turns out to be true.

This post relates to: Cable, Deadpool, X-Men, Fabian Nicieza

Here's the latest preview for Cable and that wacky Deadpool.  Looks like this title is trying to step out of the shadows and be more involved with the other X-titles.

This summer, after the events of the unforgettable X-Men #200, mutants in the Marvel Universe will become an “Endangered Species,” but what role do the time traveler Cable and the “merc with a mouth” Deadpool play in this crucial moment in mutant history? The surprising answers arrive in Cable & Deadpool #41 & 42, hitting stores this June, featuring the X-Men and showing the events leading up to X-Men #200 from Cable’s unique perspective. Just how have these events changed him? And what happens when Cable comes face to face with Deadpool once more? It’s a story so big that we need two issues in June to tell it all!

That means you get double the dose of the comic that ComixFan’s Alan Bergin described as a series in which, “you can pick it up knowing that you're going to have a good time.”

Like the early tie-ins to such recent mega-hits such as Civil War and World War Hulk, Cable & Deadpool #41 & 42 are going to be hot—don’t miss out on the issues that will redefine this series and provide the lead-in to the huge X-Men #200! With direct ties to this special anniversary issue, and new light shed on the recent major events in X-Men, Cable & Deadpool #41 & 42 are must-reads for X-fans!
