    Playfully Enjoyable

Just when I had nearly given up on having a somewhat coherent Deadpool story, "Wade Wilson's War" made it into my pull box. Granted, the only coherent thing about this book is that Wade spends the whole story in a flashback or a courtroom but Deadpool books tend to hop easily from one scene to another so some regularity was nice. This small collection is a combination of action, gratuitous violence, and more to the point, enjoyable comedy. I originally picked this up in their individual issues for a good laugh, which is exactly what it delivered. There was also interesting enough story that I truly wanted to see which character was telling the truth in their courtroom testimonies.

The overview is that Wade Wilson is on trial for crimes committed while on a questionable government sanctioned mission which lead to the deaths of his teammates. All things considered the court slowly realizes that the only crime committed here, is that Wade himself should be checked into a mental institution. Deadpool pleads his case and irresponsibly breaks the fourth wall of the entire story by reading the previous issues of "Wade Wilson's War" at his desk and talking to himself. One may think that this is just how a Deadpool book acts, and in that mindset, they would be right except that the judge and the rest of the courthouse acknowledge his attempt to break their reality and address his awareness of being a comic book character as pure lunacy. Some creepy masks and a few Law & Order moments later, its easy to see why this four issue mini-series is so much fun for any reader.

There are a few things that should be noted while reviewing this book though. First, for a four issue-series the trade collection is a bit expensive and it has no real extra content that the issues did not have. Second, it can be a bit confusing but that adds to the pure ridiculousness that Deadpool acts as a puppet master of his own stories. Third, if you are looking for a comic story with a solidified ending this may not be the book for you. However those things aside Deadpool: Wade Wilson's War is fun, cheeky and exciting for any comic fan to read, whether you be a die hard DC fan, or a Marvel addict, or of course none of the above.
