Not To Be Taken Seriously
Deadpool accepts a job which sends him to the Savage Land to retrieve a zombie Deadpool head. He meets a blonde named Dr. Betty who is after the same thing as Deadpool. From there on both Deadpool and Dr. Betty attempt to bring the zombie Deadpool head back to the Marvel Zombie Universe as they run into dinosaurs, cavemen, zombies and more.
My Thoughts:
First and foremost, this is definitely not the greatest Deadpool comic. I have definitely seen Deadpool written way better than this (Cable & Deadpool, Suicide Kings). Victor Gischler doesn't have the same grasp on Deadpool as someone like Fabian Nicieza does. But what is good about this comic is you can pick it up and read it without having to have read any other titles out there to understand this.
The art is great for about 95% of the comic. The art style switches when they enter a different reality and for a few pages we get some below average art. But the art is truly the best thing about this comic and fits perfectly for this type of comic.
There are a plethora of characters who make a guest appearance such as Ka-Zar, Captain America, Brother Voodoo and Nick Fury just to name a few. The book is 13 issues long which is probably a few to many. While reading this I found myself wishing it would just end as it seemed to keep dragging on.
I got this oversized hardcover edition which costs $39.99 however, I got a deal on it and only ended up having to pay $9.95 for it so it was worth it for me to pay that price however you may definitely want to reconsider buying this if you were willing to throw down $40 on it. It's definitely not worth that much even if you're the biggest Deadpool fan in the world.
It's not an essential read and could be skipped. It doesn't tie-in with anything important out there and it may be in your better interest to pursue something else. This comic is not to be taken seriously. If you're looking for something fun and crazy then pick it up but if you're not that type of reader then you definitely want to stay away from this.
