Deadpool Killustrated #1 - Deadpool Killed the Marvel Universe

4

Deadpool takes on the classics...and massacres them the way only he could.

The Good

Deadpool in 1850...going up against Moby Dick. Do I really need to say more?

When it comes to Deadpool, we've come to expect the unexpected. You might dismiss Deadpool facing Moby Dick as just another silly Deadpool story that is completely unnecessary. In some ways it is unnecessary. But that does not mean it should be dismissed. How the heck could we have a modern day Deadpool in 1850? There is a perfectly reasonable explanation...or at leaset reasonable when it comes to Deadpool. You'd be surprised how much the absurdity of the recap page makes sense.

If you read the last Deadpool miniseries by Cullen Bunn, DEADPOOL KILLS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE, you'll remember it ended on a weird note. This series does touch upon that. It goes into some kind of heavy thinking (yes, surprising for a Deadpool comic, I know) and despite his last killing spree, he does have a mission to follow through. Tired of endless killing, there is a way he just might be able to put an end to it all.

Matteo Lolli provides the art. It fits the story nicely as we see different characters pop up for the slaughter. Can't wait to see what he has to draw next.

The Bad

We do have an interesting idea here. Just as in DEADPOOL KILLS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE, the endless killing could make the story redundant. Seeing the "classics" combined with Deadpool could be really fun but we don't get to see too much actual interaction in this issue. It's possible we'll get to see more next issue as the set up for Deadpool...visiting the classics has been set up and explained here.

The Verdict

The idea of combining Deadpool and the 'classics' seemed like just another senseless Deadpool miniseries. Thankfully Cullen Bunn does a great job making it make sense. You wouldn't think it was possible but it does. There are some great possibilities we could see. We get a nice analysis in what makes the heroes exist and it'll be interesting to see how it plays out here. There are still a couple threads from DEADPOOL KILLS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE that may be addressed here which adds another bonus. It is violent (hence the parental warning) but isn't quite as dark as DEADPOOL KILLS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE. This is an out of continuity tale. It won't change who Deadpool is the main Marvel Universe. That doesn't matter. This is a way to see more wacky adventures with Deadpool doing what he does best.
