Practically Perfect in Every Way
This book was a complete surprise. From start to finish, it has been consistently awesome in terms of art, plot, and cameos.
For starters, this volume answers some questions going on in the main Deadpool series. I took a break from main story to read this first because the fight with vampires and bringing in Dazzler made very little sense to me. What I found here was a very well done series that told of an incredible adventure across the pond. Deadpool's presence in England makes sense, as is his hiring by Dracula. And, with 13 issues, there was plenty of time to flesh out the plot - as crazy as it turned out to be. By the end, we really believe in the relationship between Deadpool and Shiklah. The epilogue story is amazing, as it shows Shiklah questioning her relationship but finding that she and Deadpool are a great match.
The art does a lot of the story telling. My favorite panel comes from the epilogue where a taxi driver yells at the two. The next scene shows Deadpool laughing by himself while Shiklah, in her mighty monster form, chases the taxi driver around the city.
The authors continue to fuse humor into the story, but also to be sure to mention some of the deeper issues underlying the story. Deadpool is in England because he is running from the emotions of possibly having a wife and daughter that may-or-may-not-be dead. He fails at times, recalling his past in more vulnerable moments.
The art is lovely. There are panels in which I wished I were reading the Infinity comic instead of the hardcopy, but it was still really nice to look at. The violence is pretty graphic yet still comedic enough not to be gratuitous. Shiklah looks amazing. The cameos don't look weird.
All in all, this book was consistently good, which is something difficult to do. The epilogue was heart-felt and hilarious. I highly recommend this entire series.
