Deadpool 10
Deadpool is still working from Vetis' list and we get a team up with the Superior Spider-Man!
The Good
Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan outdo themselves with this issue! After a couple of letdowns in a few of the last issues, Posehn and Duggan really take all of their creative juices and pull together a near flawless Deadpool comic. The two writers, once again, find a perfect mixture of violence and comedy in this issue.
The fate of Michael in this issue is extremely brief, but it gives readers something [else] to look forward to. However, the main event of this issue is DP and Spider-Man!
There is something that I've always liked about the team up between Deadpool and Spider-Man. Maybe it is that they both have a big mouth in a fight, but they always seemed to work well together. However, now that Ock is in control of Parker's body, you can see the contrast between the Superior Spider-Man and Deadpool. If you have followed the SUPERIOR Spider-Man series, then you know that Ock is a really uptight [jerk] Spider-Man. A new take on Spider-Man and following a new direction in character development. Seeing both DP and Spider-Man banter back and forth with one another is great because Ock is nowhere as funny as the original Spider-Man, but Deadpool is still, Deadpool. So having the two team up for the time they did in this issue really makes this a highlight issue.
One of the references that Deadpool made to Spider-Man at the end of the issue, "I think you and I are destined to do this forever!" was a nice nod to Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight. It is great to see how Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan work references to pop culture into the story without making it feel forced.
The artwork by Mike Hawthorne is still awesome. He really outdid himself with this issue, especially with the big team up with DP and Spider-Man and the battle that followed. The colors by Val Staples compliments Hawthorne's art style and makes this an overall great experience.
The Bad
This has been one of the best issue out of the series. If I did have to complain about one thing, an error in the artwork where in one panel Spider-Man has no glove and in the next, he has it. Other than that, I really enjoyed this 10th issue.
The Verdict
Deadpool and SUPERIOR Spider-Man! This is my new favorite DP issue in this series. Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan found the perfect mix of violence and comedy, added with Spider-Man in the mix of things, and the result being a over-the-top butt kicking issue. The writers please both Spider-Man and Deadpool fans as neither character outdoes the other. So pick it up Spider-Man and Deadpool fans! The artwork is still as great as before and it'll be interesting to see what happens in issue 11. Overall 5 out of 5.
