One of the characters that returned to life in Blackest Night #8 was Deadman. Deadman has been dead for a while. He made his first appearance back in 1967. Now that he's alive, what is he supposed to do? In Brightest Day #0 he mentions that he's back with no home or job. Who can he turn to?
What we really need to think about is why was he brought back? I'm not talking about Geoff Johns' decision. I'm talking in the whole higher power deal. In Boston Brand's inner monologue he says:
So let's say some higher power set him on this mission after he was killed. I'm left wondering if this higher power had anything say or anything to do with his resurrection in Blackest Night. Is all of this the decision of one cosmic being or do we have multiple forces at work here with the former Deadman? Will there be any repercussions over Deadman's "mission" changing or is this was was always intended for him? While I may not have been the biggest Deadman fan in the past, I have to say that of the twelve that have been brought back, he might be the one I'm most interested in hearing about."For some reason, one I'm still not exactly sure of, my spirit stuck around, burdened with an eternity of helping others."
It was said that the characters were brought back for a reason. In Brightest Day #0, Deadman's run in with dead bird gives us a glimpse at what his reason might be.
What will this mean for Deadman? What is the purpose and power of the White Lantern? Will Deadman be able to bring anyone back to life or only those that are "meant" to be brought back?
My original question was, does Boston Brand need to change his name now? If he has the power to bring the dead to life and is no longer dead himself, being known as Deadman just doesn't work. As far as I know, there isn't an "Aliveman" character...anywhere (and probably with good reason since that sounds pretty lame). Should he start wearing a costume with a big A on it now? What do you think Deadman's role will be in the DC Universe during Brightest Day? Issue #0 is on sale today.
