Deadman's been getting a lot of attention lately. Not only was he crucial in Brightest Day, he also won the heart of Holly Granger and played an important role in Flashpoint: Deadman and the Flying Graysons. Deadman has been on the small screen in animated form but it looks like he is getting ready to make his live-action debut.

Making his debut in 1967's Strange Adventures #205, Deadman has long been a fan-favorite but not exactly a household name. This is something that Supernatural creator, Eric Kripke is hoping to change.

Deadline reported that the CW is looking to bring a new superhero franchise to the airwaves. With Smallville ending it's successful ten season run, a big hole has been left in their programming schedule. The show will be written and executive produced by Kripke.

CW president Mark Pedowitz said they are looking to do a superhero show next year of the right character comes along. Deadman may seem like an odd choice, the spirit of a murdered man able to inhabit the bodies of others in order to solve their problems, but given the supernatural element (no pun intended) and the success of shows like Supernatural and Vampire Diaries on the CW, Deadman might just be the perfect fit.

We all know adapting superheroes in tights can be a difficult task. Deadman may be the character that can bring some life to the network.

An intangible hero who leaps from body to body solving problems worked pretty well for Quantum Leap once upon a time. I could see it working if done right.

That is a very unusual choice. I love Deadman to...well...death, and would love to see him gain wider public recognition. I just hope that the changes they make to him don't negatively effect his comic persona too much (as I'm always skeptical of outside media adaptations of my favourite characters).

    I agree

But i don't know much about deadman aside from cartoons, he might be cool if they use the producers from supernatural to execute the shows feel since he is very much a ghost and should have a erie tone to his show

Zatanna though was awesome on smallville and if they use that actress, it could be successful and oddly zatanna's costume translated well

I thought they were making a Raven tv series for the CW. Deadman could work if done right. Hopefully we'll get some cameos from other DC heroes and villains.

I agree with Zatanna. She is my favorite female character & a show about her would be fantastic & they would have to use Serinda Swan, the actress that portrayed her on Smallville. I was hoping she would've showed up in more than the 2 episodes she was on.

That would be a GREAT choice, to do Deadman.  I always did consider Boston Brand an amalgamation of Dick Grayson with Harry Houdini, so to put that onto prime time would be a great choice with what power he has.  I think it would be great to do! Bring it on.

The only reason Smallville was really successful was because people knew who Clark Kent/Superman is... Outside the comic reading world, nobody knows who Deadman is.

I wish CW luck, but you gotta really do something with him that'll make people watch and stay interested.

I dig the hell out of Supernatural, so I'm thinking this can work out incredibly well...as long as CW lets this creator do his thing with minimal interference....

...which is a statement that just made me laugh like crazy.

Now I haven't watced a single episode of Smallville and from what I uderstand Clrak Kent was a terribly written character but there version of Green Arrow was actually well written in the show and the actor playing him pulled a good performance of Ollie. My question is why make a show of a character that hasn't appeared in a single episode of your previous 10 season series but one that is well established does not get a shot ? It just raises to many questions.

it can't replace Smallville, and with this kind of thinking from producers it seems more like they're trying to cover two shows with one blow.

Any smart analyst of Smallville's success will see there's a pattern from season 1-5 and then 6-10 and the majority of the momentum in that second half was not because of the 'superman' character so much as the idea of others out there being introduced. People WANT a DC based LIVE TEAM group.

They don't need another 'talking to the dead show', it's been milked like a zombie with no direction left to go. (and I actually like deadman as a comic)

If they wanna counter a Marvel movie team wave that is obviously coming, they would be smart to figure what they need is a strategic TV counterpart.

Seeing as they're so willing to reboot the books, then they should have the balls to do ANYTHING with TV, and it's only there where they're gonna have the ammo to wage their 'media war' if they REALLY wanna fight it.

Right now it seems like Marvel want's the movies, and DC wants the cartoons, but neither seems willing to own the live TV market.

That's a damn shame cause most TV is sucking at the moment when it doesn't need to because good content is being bogarted by people with no idea where to pass the light to in certain mediums ;)

I can envision how they'd significantly change the story and character to adapt to TV. Yet this doesn't seem like a choice that would have much...life....to it for a series. The fact they're pondering another comic character is interesting but I just hope if one does happen it isn't too similar to Smallville. It had its moments, mind you, but *ugh*.

I don't think this is going to work on the same scale as Smallville. The appeal the series had at the start wont be found here. Bad choice IMO.

CW is milking the hell out of  supernatural shows at this point. They better hope by the time Deadman  airs, the general audience wont be burned out by then. Hell, two supernatural shows are premiering in the fall with Supernatural going on for another season. Just overkill.

Deadman by Kripke? sign me up. As long as he can borrow some of the writers from Supernatural. Hell, bring in other magic-based characters like Zatanna or Phantom Stranger and we have room for spin-offs.
