A Deadman Movie Produced By Guillermo del Toro?
Bloody Disgusting has reported that Warner Brothers has plans for a Deadman movie. Nikolaj Arcel is reported as the director and Guillermo del Toro is said to be producing. That would be really cool. Del Toro could add a lot to the movie. I think because Deadman's not a household name, they would have more control over the movie. There would probably be less pressure. They could actually make the character true to his comic roots and not have to worry about the mainstream audience. Given the fact that he is a...dead man and the fact that he was murdered, they could add some darkness to the movie. Hopefully when Deadman jumps into an inhabits someone's body, it won't come across as too cheesy.
What are your thoughts on a Deadman movie? Would you go see it? Do you think del Toro producing will add a lot? Could Deadman have his actual costume in the movie?
I'll watch anything Del Toro is involved in.
Not too familiar with Deadman though, me not being a big fan of DC. I'll make myself familiar woth him once there's a date, though.
However, I think this may very well end up being an R-rated movie, and those don't usually go over well. Especially with a name like Deadman, alot of adults will think it's way too cheesy to watch, and the teens won't get in.
I'll watch it. But I've never really cared for anything involving Deadman. He's always felt weak at best to me, and I should maybe reread some things, but as a kid I always remember thinking he was kinda lame. Of course until BN I hadn't read, heard or thought of him since I was a kid.
Deadman, Del Toro all sounds pretty cool hopefully there is some truth to this as oppose to the other projects he's been involved with and never happened. If Hollywood must make five or six superhero movies a year then they should follow the path of the Pre-Vertigo mature comics and use weird and little known superheroes in bizarre and adult stories instead of just trying to make big blockbuster superhero movies or else the public will get tired of them.
" I've never heard of the character before but now that i've read his page he kind of reminds me of the The Crow. "There have been those comparisons. But Deadman first appeared in 1967 and the Crow in 1989.
I've always loved Deadman. I've always loved it whenever they would have Batman and Deadman team up as well. I was happy when they brought him on the Brave and the Bold.
I did hear a while back that Del Toro was wanting to do a Deadman movie. Which is perfect cause that's right up his alley. Plus, if Del Toro is doing it then we already know who's pretty much playing him, and that's Doug Jones - Del Toro's main guy. If you don't know who Doug Jones he's Abe Sabian & Silver Surfer. Doug Jones certainly has the right physique for Deadman.
" I remember reading a few years ago the WB wanted to do a Deadman movie. The worst thing that could happen is that they try to make it a superhero movie, but I think Del Toro knows better than that. Sound great. "I think they actually wanted to do a TV show. The good thing about Deadman is since he's not so well known, they won't have pressure to make sure it's a blockbuster in terms of moviegoers that don't always have the best taste. I'm hoping they won't have to compromise the character as often happens with the bigger characters. There's also the fact that Guillermo is pretty dang busy so I'd wonder how involved he could be and when they would get started on this. But I would see Warners as trying to create as many viable franchises as possible. If all the players are ready to get working on it, I don't think they'd sit on it.
if it gets the green light im all for it. big fan of Deadman, and Del Toro.
DC needs to be looking at more second tier characters like this for films.
I really hope it plays out in the positive.
I have a feeling this will be a bust. As awesome as deadman is, I have a feeling this movie will have a much smaller budget than say Batman or Superman because of the fact that you stated not a lot of people are familiar with him. Before they begin anything with this movie they need to get him more involved in DCU and promote him like crazy if they would want this movie to be a success. But if they do make this and del Toro is directing I will definately see it
