Too Much 'Deadman', Not Enough 'DC Universe Presents.' 5

The Good: It's always good to see unappreciated characters get some spotlight. *Cough cough* HowcomeMartianManhunterdidn'tgethisownseriesandtheotherBrightestDayheadlinersdid? *Cough* Ahem. Sorry. But as I said, good to see Deadman get props. The art is really nice most of the time, and has a few really cool scenes with interesting panel layouts. If you don't know Deadman by the time you finish this issue, you did something wrong. Is Rama new or is she just part of Deadman's history I didn't know...

A Ghostly Wall of Text 0

There is only 1 bad thing about this book and that is if you don't want to read a wall of text in your comics you might not like this, but that being said that wall of text is well written and it's easy to get through. When first saw the feature I was disappointed with the choice, but this was a well done story which leaves me wanting more. It's just unfortunate that he doesn't have his own book with all the garbage books DC is putting out. He's one of the few characters that is having their orig...

So... What Did Deadman Do While He Was a Stripper? 1

Kicking off with a the beginning of a Deadman story, DC Universe Presents impresses with its reboot of DC's leading ghost. Paul Jenkins and Bernard Chang reintroduce readers to Boston Brand as a man not terribly likable in life but very sympathetic in death.I'm coming into this as a reader who has basically hated everything Jenkins has written for the past several years. Before this issue, I had written him off as a writer. I would not have even tried this issue were I not making my way through ...

The many lives Deadman has lived. 1

WOW this is a text heavy issue.  I don't think I read as much words in any of the 52 until now.  Heck if you add all the comics with the controversial "Sex appeal" together I still don't think they would have as much words.  But this book sold sex as well with a stripper, but that is not the point, there is a lot to read, just to warn you guys.  All the text a side the visual narration was strong, the transitions made sense and the body language conveyed what I felt was the right emotions, which...

Solid story with serviceable art but not a lot more. 0

As a guy who knows little about the character, "DC Universe Presents: Deadman" #1 served as a jumping on point for me. I've always thought Deadman looked interesting so I was more than willing to give writer Paul Jenkins' book a chance. Most of the issue feels like a conversation between the reader and a man named Boston Brand. We learn that he was an arrogant pompous jerk who is given a chance at redemption after being murdered by a mysterious assassin. It's a well written explanation of the c...

The DC Story of Deadman 0

In this first issue of DC Universe Present's, Deadman will be the star of the show for the first five issues! While Deadman's origin hasn't been bent much, writer Paul Jenkins is sure to make Deadman's first five appearances a huge hit! With artist Bernard Chang along on the adventure, Deadman is trying to find his purpose in his life as dead and alive. The GoodTo be honest, I actually enjoyed this first issue of DC Universe presents. While it's not Deadman's own comic book title, it was still a ...
