AS if I didn't feel stupid already for buying a Lifetime subscription before realizing how dull the game is...

I want to try this game hopefully I remember when I have time in winter.

i have the ps3 version, and i hated how everything worked out money wise. might start playing again now that its free

Yep free to play. If you spend at least five dollars on anything though you can upgrade to the middle option of premium which doesn't expire. one time $5 dollar fee. Despite the free to play switchover i will still be paying the full subscription legendary plan because more dlcs will be coming out because of this transition and if your on the legendary plan you get them for free. I play on ps3, if anybody wants to play sometime just send me a message on here.

The only really good thing this had was a story line. It doesn't have great missions. It doesn't have great Costume Customization. Its missing so many powers its not funny.

Where in that article does it say it will be free to download? It seems to me that we still have to buy the game.

I was in the beta, it was alright back then, nothing spectacular. Maybe I'll give it another shot now.

@Iridium: I see it in this article, I meant in the real article on the website. I'm wondering if comicvine might have gotten that bit of information wrong, or if the dcuo website just didn't include that point.

On the one hand, this sounds really cool to be able to get DC Universe Online for free. On the other hand, I have a feeling that this game could consume my life if I get it so I think I'll pass on it.

How do I do that?

With Champions Online proving to be less than impressive to me, I'm glad to hear that DCUonlne will be free now...and I'm glad I didn't jump to buy it like other people I knew. Ha! But seriously, hopefully this will fill the void that leaving Champions behind has produced in me since I don't have any superhero MMORGs right now.

@ips: Sweet, thanks for letting me know. My statement still stands. City of Heroes/Villains was supscription based since 2004 and DC online couldn't make it a year.

A free version? I like the sound of that.

damn, last week I just bought a 3 month sub to check out the Green Lantern DLC, would have been good to know this beforehand, nice work SOE :(

you playing on pc or ps3?

I bought it when it first came out, after I reached max level the game became incredibly boring and with little to no other players in the realm, do any real End Game content was next to impossible. Hopefully with the new "free" version that will change, hell I may go back to playing.

@LB70145: they COULD have made it a year easily. every SOE game has gone for years. even the "dead" SWG has gone for 6 or 8 years now. but in a market where the other 2 superhero games have already gone f2p, (because every mmo is going that direction these days) it doesn't make business sense to not go f2p. you make more money off a f2p scheme than you do p2p.

@bertacolypsenao: a couple months ago they created MegaServers putting all servers onto one which solved any perceived population problems. if you want to run endgame content in this game you must join a league. 90% of the players do not pickupgroups for content and only play in leagues.

@ips: That's what I was saying. I would have launched the game free to play because they were going to end up there no matter what. If anything, they would have gotten a lot more initial players if you ask me. But then again, it would not have helped the quality of the game lol

I've been wanting to play this forever, just not willing to shell out the bucks for it. Guess this is the perfect time!

When is this coming into effect?

i will probably still pay cause i love the game that much, but i dont like the fact theyve cut down on character slots. if you play free you only get two slots unless you purchase extras. I know if i wanted to play for free id be kinda angry just cause already my slots are maxxed out with really good characters i worked on. If i had to just delete them id be kinda annoyed

I just came back to this game a week ago, it really is a cool game, I just feel a little lost sometimes because I have played it so little. My highest level is only a 13 or 14 so I have seen very little of the game so far.

I predicted that this would go F2P when it came out months ago.

I want to play it now but can't seem to find a copy on shelves and it seems they've pulled down the digital version off PSN.
