New Face of Heroism
After being completely mutilated back in issue # 6, Lex Luthor now is dying and only Brainiac can save his life and change him into Earth´s new protector - this is a great feat in this present day story, the fact that Luthor is a man torned in sorrow, anger and pride, so the fact that he owns Brainiac his life will always haunt him, even in the future when he promised to kill the alien (apparently only a ruse to gain trust of the heroes) - Mike S. Miller´s art was very good, solid work, but it was Bedard´s dialogues that shined the most in this issue, especially the ones showing the Martian Manhunter condition (he had almost the totality of his powers drained by the exobytes), Superman´s fragile state of mind (since Lois is being captive of Brainiac in his chamber of bottled cities) and the debate between Luthor and Brainiac - this was a quick read, a story all told in the present/past, only made to help understand a little about what happened to Luthor and how his relationship with Brainiac helped him achieve his goal.
