Even before the series entitled, " Trinity" came out it was understood that the Big Three (not the Wildstorm Big Three) of the DCU were comprised of Wonder Woman, Batman, and Superman. And during the Goldenand Silver Age(s) of comics that line-up made sense. But what about now? Would you still consider Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, to be the Big Three? Or have other more successful characters stepped up to lay claim to the position? Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) in my opinion, has surpassed Wonder Woman (and possibly even Superman) in terms of modern day relevance as well as popularity. He has several key and highly memorable story arcs as well as a live action movie on the horizon due out sometime in 2011. While any talk of a Wonder Woman movie usually involves speculation and revolves around Beyonce, and or Megan Fox. In fact, we are more likely to see the release of a Flash live action movie before Diana ever graces the silver screen. Superman does not seem to be fairing any better either. Its been three years since Brandon Roth and Bryan Singer helped cripple the franchise, and any talk of a new Superman movie centers on rebooting the character. The current Superman title does not even focus on Kal-El, but Mon-El. And his last major story arc that had comicbook fans excited was "The Death of Superman."

Batman on the other hand remains as popular (if not more so) then ever. Even with Dick taking up the mantle, the Batman franchise continues to attract new readers while at the same time keeping its old ones. Both recent Batman films were hugely successful and a third film is all but guaranteed. So I feel confident in saying that Batman's position in the Big Three will remain as such for quite some time. So what is it about the other two that has them falling out of the top position? I am a vocal Wonder Woman fan but even I can admit that her story arcs (including the recent Blackest Night three issue mini) are not bringing in new readers. The art is good, the writing is good, but it is still missing something. One problem Wonder Woman has is the lack of a decent Rogues Gallery. A hero is only as good as their villains, and Wonder Woman's villains are pathetic. Especially when compared to the likes of the Joker, Darkseid, Lex Luthor, Deathstroke, etc etc.
    No Caption Provided

Another problem she may have is in her own series she is often isolated. Her villains seldom, if ever, crossover to battle other heroes in other titles ( Justice League of Americabeing one of the exceptions). They have little to no exposure. I also believe the whole "Greek mythology" helps hold her back as a character. Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of Greek Mythology, but I do not believe everyone feels the same way. There are only so many Greek Gods you can turn into villains and even then, you can not have Wonder Woman battling them every issue. So what happens is, a new super powered character is created for the soul purpose of challenging Wonder Woman. They have little to no back story and after being killed or defeated, we never see them again. Genocide comes to mind here. What about basis? Superman has the Fortress of Solitude and Batman the Batcave. But what does Wonder Woman have? An apartment in Washington D.C.? No real use of technology or gadgets. Just some rope and occasionally a sword and a shield. Pretty basic. She's not really a martial artists, which usually helps bring in fans, and she's never really been shown as a methodical tactician. All these elements put together equal a character who most people recognize, but few care about.

Gail Simone may want to take a page out of Geoff Johns' book and totally revamp Wonder Woman's rogues. Rogue Wartook a bunch of half assessed Flash villains and turned them into interesting and lethal characters. Which in turn helped revitalize the Flash franchise as a whole. In my opinion, the Big Three of the DCU have been altered, the landscape changed. Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are no longer the top dogs. Instead the New Era Trinity is made up of, Batman, Flash, and Green Lantern.

I agree with you on Wonder Woman but all of the Superman family titles are better then they have been in years...the only reason that World of New Krypton isn't getting more attention is because Blackest Night is outshining it right now....while Green Lantern and Batman are doing the stereotypical storylines of death and rebirth the Superman books are trying something truly different and new and they are succeeding really well....in other words Superman will always be the number one hero of the DC Universe nothing will change that

I do agree with most of this, but even if Superman and Wonder Woman are replaced, I will always view these three as the big three. Hopefully, DC will do better with them so they regain their place with Batman.

I am happy about the rise of the Green Lantern though and am glad Supes got dethrone. I hope another female takes the place of Wonder Woman.

Neither of them have the same value as Wonder Woman has, I figure if they could just bring a damn good writer to the Justice League and keep her as a leader..they could actually do the character some justice...no pun intended.

You're right, they don't. But I don't think there is a female (DC) character out there who does. Some people like Barry more then Wally. But I'd say both Barry and Wally (as of now) are doing better then Wonder Woman.

All it would take though to up Wonder Woman's rogues would be a great story done be a good writer. Flash's rogues use to be a joke too. And in terms of Iconic statues I agree, no female character anywhere matches up. But there are several more popular female characters out there at the moment.

You just made this Barry Allen fan a very happy man. Someone agrees that Barry an Wally are the worlds Flashes.

And I agree with the new Trinity. And upon forced suggestions ive started to pick up Wonder Woman tpbs  and i am realling liking it. Gail never really was a big favorite of mine but ater reading her stuff with WW im really liking her.

..Emma frost is the only close one, Batwomans book is uninteresting, the Gotham City Sirens while cool just dont do anything compared to the years of work put in by Wonder Woman..and SpiderWoman is just not that interesting.

Its not about "compiled." I am talking about right now, all the characters I just mentioned receive more attention and garner more fan fair then Wonder Woman currently does. Both Detective Comics and Gotham Sirens are top sellers. Wonder Woman's series isn't even in the running. Like I said, WW is an icon. But in terms of popularity right now, she's fallen behind.

The Holy Trinity refer to who is there main single hero moneymakers who define the universe and are involved in nearly every arc. Supes and WW have not been selling well and are not the main players in recent arcs. Green Lantern and Batman both have played major roles in the recent arcs.

Hahaha that's awesome. And I'm sure alot of people feel the same way. But I also believe in today's comicbook atmosphere that there are just as many people looking up in the sky for Hal Jordan.

Superman has just had other stuff going on...I mean he hasn't even been on earth for the past year

Green Lantern is more of an interplanetary hero and Flash mainly opperates out Keystone City....while Superman is more of a whole earth hero

Personally, I would rather the Flash or Hal Jordan appear. That way they can keep me entertained as they defeat the dinosaur. Also, I would feel bad for the dino if Superman showed up. Why did you beat the dinosaur up so badly? It was just hungry.
