Why cant DC comics and Warner make Rated R movies?

Besides Watchmen of course

They don't sell as well.

Because Warner Brothers is run by tyranical old men who are in bed with the media/morality watchdogs.

As much as I would love to see an R comic book movie they can't make as much money. There's been a handful of R rated Marvel and DC movies though.

There is a reason kids movies make more than adult movies.

Because adults watch them too.

What movie should be more violent? Didn't Batman worked fine as it is? Does it has to be over the top violent to be good?

Excluding a large part of a target audience => less revenues.

OP should change the post to,"Why doesn't Hollywood make more rated R movies?"

Can you name a few that are R18+ another than Watchmen? If I'm being honest I found the humor and action in avengers better than watchmen.

I think the 3 Punisher movies were R too

It's not really that necessary to be honest.

i know, its just like a fantasy, and i was wondering how it be like, I wanted to be a filmaker, and surely if i worked on DC i would love to make Rated R movies, theres IMO characters to do very good R movies, and for me , even the Justice League

Look at the Dark Knight. It wouldn't have taken much to push that movie into the R category. All they had to do was show rather than imply some of the Joker's more gruesome shenanigans. Plenty of people will take their 10 year old kids to go see a Batman movie if its PG-13. If that movie's R, there's a lot less parents willing to take their kids to it, which vastly reduces ticket sales.

Have you heard of New Line Cinemas boss? That's the banner they use when they want to try out something out of the ordinary. Although it hasn't been used in months. I am seeing a lot of WB Studio distributed movies though.

If they had made Jonah Hex as an R rated movie that also actually had something in common with the actual character it could have been good
