Which DCnU titles have you given up on

#1 Posted by ltbrd (502 posts) - 1 year, 5 months ago - Show Bio

I know its still early in the DCnU to be saying some series just aren't worth your time but given the cost of comics which series did you pick up at issue 1 and now have dropped it from your list because it disappointed you.

For me Savage Hawkman has been a huge letdown but also Vodoo and Resurrection Man just didn't grab my attention the way I had been expecting them to.

I bought bundle deals for all DC52 at 50% off thru March, so I haven't given up on any yet.

I do find myself struggling to read Mister Terrific (terribly written) and Deathstroke (20 pages of cutting off heads isn't going to make for an interesting book about a villain). They will not survive the cut in March.

Firestorm, Green Arrow, and Static Shock are average, but they have changes to the creative teams coming up. They could improve.

I am hoping that Sterling Gates can turn his writing around on Hawk and Dove. I am not sure where he is going with the story. I feel like he doesn't know either.

Tony Daniels is bringing in a co-writer for Savage Hawkman. Sounds like they work well together, so that gives me another reason (besides the amazing art) to keep reading.

I love Vodoo and Resurrection Man. They are definitely not standard superhero comics (hence being part of the Edge and The Dark lines), so I understand if some people don't enjoy them.

I've given up on Superboy and Teen Titans. Nothing's been happening in either.

#5 Posted by GamerGeek360 (250 posts) - 1 year, 5 months ago - Show Bio

I'm not giving up on any of the ones I'm picking up yet but the one closest to the cut is Birds of Prey. If it wasn't for recent announcements that Batgirl may have a part in that series, I'd be heavily considering it more. Everything else I'm picking up seems great though. Granted I'm only picking up 17 of the 52 titles, but I don't plan on dropping any yet.

But Deathstroke is meant to be all about cutting off heads, he's meant to be the worlds most bad ass mercenary/assassin, i love the fact that it's action packed!

As for me, The only one i can see myself dropping is Action comics but that's if it doesn't impress me again by issue 10.

So far only OMAC and Hawk and Dove. I'm an inch away from tossing aside TDK and Green Arrow. I still read Mr. Terrific because I'm hoping Power Girl will eventually show up. Glutton for punishment, that's me.

#15 Posted by jsphsmth (1126 posts) - 1 year, 5 months ago - Show Bio

@tones28: Action packed? No, it seems very repetitious and boring when there is no justification besides "I am the most bad*** merc in the world, watch me prove it by cutting off everybody's head."

Higgins should be delving into the fact that his brain is as advanced as his body. That was what made Deathstroke an interesting villain.

Hawk & Dove and GL: New Guardians are this close to being cut, and are only staying because I would only have two first-week titles and one fourth-week title without them.

I haven't picked up a DCnU comic since the second issues came out.

Stormwatch and Mr. Terrific for me.

#24 Posted by chalkshark (825 posts) - 1 year, 5 months ago - Show Bio

None. The titles I'm buying are only being bought for the art. As none of the artists have been announced to be moving on... though there have already been a couple of fill-ins... I expect i will continue on with those comics.

None yet.

#28 Posted by fury714 (544 posts) - 1 year, 5 months ago - Show Bio

Supergirl's the only one so far, but im leaning on cutting Grifter and Detective comics if nothing picks up after their 2nd arcs.

#29 Posted by Archlord (138 posts) - 1 year, 5 months ago - Show Bio

Superboy - the artwork looks as if it where pixel shaded CG or something.

Action Comics - because Superman was never known as Superboy himself, which sucks.

Batman and Robin - it's alright, but not my cup of tea.

Batgirl - it's not appealing.

Batwoman - You think for a #1, the story would interest you. It's crap, really.

Birds of Prey - Bah

The Flash - Iris West was awesome in Flash Vol. 3, now she's silly in the DCnU

All the titles in the Dark, because... you think they could put these guys in a single book. Frankenstein isn't so bad though.

Legion of Super Heroes - As it doesn't do justice to previous volumes.

I also want to give up on Wonder Woman because it's just terrible. I was truly dissapointed with #1, most fans, please tell me you where dissapointed?

Detective Comics

This.

I've been trying to get into all of the titles featuring Batman (except Batman: TDK...don't care much fo Finch's art or the story direction) but Detective Comics just wasn't cutting it, while I enjoy the art as it does fit Batman, the story and characters just weren't working for me. For one, and maybe this is due to me not reading issues one and two, so maybe this was explained in those issues, but I'm having a hard time understanding where the story takes place in current Bat-Continuity; I assumed it was in the past but it's hard to tell HOW far in the past as we don't her any mention of any Robin's or other others like Barbara or Dick, but Bruce does seem younger. But in the end the story really was what brought me to give up on the title, I liked Dollmaker as a villain but the writing was just...eh, and the characters like Charlotte just didn't grab my interest to be honest.

Really, I would have liked DC to do what G-Man wrote about with them having Detective Comics show us Batman's early days when he's just starting out, maybe not a complete retelling like Year One but something like they're doing in Action Comics with Supes. Maybe show us stories with characters like Dick as Robin, or early interactions with love interest like Talia or something that could shed some light on what in Batman's history is still in this new universe's continuity and what's not.

The Flash

Savage Hawkman

I have much love for Hawkman, but when the arch villain of the title is called Morphicius and the concept of his origin is a blatant rip-off of a Spider-Man villain, then I say good riddance.

#33 Posted by jsphsmth (1126 posts) - 1 year, 5 months ago - Show Bio

Dropping Action because Morrison is an overrated hack and Superman because the story is really not good, so bad in fact that I am unwilling to wait for the creative team change at issue #7.

#34 Posted by ReVamp (22561 posts) - 1 year, 5 months ago - Show Bio

The Dark Knight Frankenstein Agent of SHADE Grifter Superman Man of War Hawk and Dove OMAC Green Arrow Savage Hawkman

This.

#35 Posted by jsphsmth (1126 posts) - 1 year, 5 months ago - Show Bio

Green Arrow. Thought about hanging on for Nocenti's take, but the preview art looks like the same guy pretending to be Green Arrow. I would kill to see the Mike Grell written street-level, bad*** Green Arrow again.

Hawk and Dove. Gate's departure didn't come soon enough. I think they are letting Liefield write it until they cancel it. They only need seven issues to complete the trade they scheduled for August.

Even though I enjoyed it, i'd say i'm done with JL Dark. I guess after reading Hellblazer for so long, i just can't get used to this version of Constantine. He just a little too watered down here for me. At least we still got the good old Vertigo one though.

#37 Posted by jrock85 (2870 posts) - 1 year, 5 months ago - Show Bio

I'm about to give up on Green Lantern unless Johns stops his Sinestro wankfest.

#38 Posted by jsphsmth (1126 posts) - 1 year, 5 months ago - Show Bio

It pains me, as they are great stories so far, but I am dropping Animal Man and Swamp Thing. I just do not enjoy horror comics enough to keep reading them.

#39 Posted by JonesDeini (3590 posts) - 1 year, 5 months ago - Show Bio

Stormwatch, Static Shock, Batman & Robin. If money gets tight I can see myself dropping All Star Western, Demon Knights, Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E.,& JLD.

The four Lantern books were definitely a soft reboot. Dropping all four, just not new user friendly enough for me to enjoy.

I'm really close to giving up on Green Lantern Corps. Depending on how this arc wraps up, I may drop it soon. I was gonna drop Birds of Prey but now that Babs is in it, I will continue on.
