Do you want a jumping on point for Villains Month or Zero Year? They're two separate things.

Zero Year is the Batman origin story. Really good so far, you might be able to find issues 21 and 22 still on the shelves- those are the first two issues for Batman Zero Year.

Villain's Month is just a compilation of one-issue origin stories for DC villains.

If you like the Villain's month thing, then I would suggest starting from Forever Evil #1. Then if you want to know how it lead up to the Forever Evil event, then you've gotta get Trinity War... it's debatable if it's essential... but still it's nice to know how it got up to Forever Evil.

Also, I think you might be getting confused with the Villain's Month and Zero Year because some of the Villain titles are origin stories (not all of them are). Some Villain titles will tie-in to their respective original titles' current arc, some will be origin stories and some will tie-in to Forever Evil.

"Zero Year" refers to the year long event of Batman's/Bruce's new origin in The New 52. And if you want to get into it, the best starting point is #21... which is the beginning of the Zero Year arc, currently we are at #23 (and the decimal numberings) and next month will be #24.

You could also wait for the ridiculously expensive collection of all the Villain month's titles, all in one book.

Villains Month you could jump on Forever Evil #1 and pick up any of the other stories of the villains that interest you. If Darkseid is one of your favorite villains, pick up Justice League 23.1 and so on.

Zero Year you should jump onto Batman #21 and it's going to keep going through the Batman title and eventually tie ins will come from some of the other Bat-titles, Green Arrow, Flash, and I think Green Lantern Corps (John Stewart).

Zero Year is terrible, don't buy it. The court of owls was the only good thing Snyder wrote on this run,
