Here's a list from an Excel sheet of the top and bottom 15 sellers during Villains Month in The New 52. These figures are taken from Diamond Comic Distributors (via Comichron), who keeps track of this sort of thing.

My normal monthly updates are interrupted for a month, as someone at DC had the idea of letting the villains take over each (well selling) title for four issues during September, one issue a week, in order to celebrate the second anniversary of the New 52. It was a dastardly plan to get more sales, and more money, from the loyal readers. And holy smoke, it worked.

Here are the sales figures for August. That month, the New 52 sums to 1,801,452 issues sold, a slight drop in line with the long term evolution of the sales total. The villains doubled that: 3,431,432 issues sold in the core titles. That's the second best month in New 52 history, with only the very first month beating it. Villain's Month is a strong success for DC.

Here are the top 15 and bottom 15 issues. Note that there's two versions of each issue: the $3.99 3-D cover, and the $2.99 "standard" cover; both covers are combined in the following tables.

Note that the first issue of the Forever Evil miniseries sold 139,976 issues; I'll add it in for comparison for future issues.

Because they are the best and most popular. And Brainiac sold around 40K I think, so its very down below.

Forever Evil is technically a miniseries, separate from the New 52 ongoing series. I'll put it in future charts as a footnote.

Brainiac is #33, at 56,025 issues sold between the two covers.

@rustyroy: Making the table took about an hour in Excel. First, copy and paste the figures for every issue in the New 52, sort them alphabetically to get the 3-D and paper covers together for each issue, sum the figures for each, and finally save the sorted totals.

Surprised to see how well the Penguins sold. I haven't heard of really anyone getting excited over his comic. It was good comic though. Also I am a bit disappointed the Flash comics was so far down on the list and surprised about Deathstroke due to that Comic Vine villain polls they did a couple weeks back.

    Thanks for making the table!

New figures come out Monday, and in the meantime, here's DC's top sellers:

    Overall Rank (all comics)SeriesIssue
    2Batman24
    4Forever Evil (miniseries)2
    6Justice League24
    7Superman/Wonder Woman1
    8The Sandman:Overture (Vertigo, part of DC)1

DC is riding the Villain's Month tailwind, having a higher retail share (dollars) than Marvel, and coming half a percentage point behind Marvel in units sales.

Landing in the top ten is a good sign for Supes/Wondy to stick around; the key factor will be how will it retains an audience.
