Ok guys, I'm new to all superheroes besides Batman when it comes to comics, even with Batman some would still consider me new (I have all of Scott Snyder's New 52 titles and few other writers of Batman stories from the past - Killing Joke for example).

I want to get into Green Lantern, I started reading Geoff Johns New 52 and its great, I'm really enjoying it. Here is my question, I know other Green/Red Lantern stories won't continue after Convergence, so should I read them? Are they any good? Will they help me with understanding universe and character's better? Are they connected to Green Lantern main story in some important way?

@mr_majki: Red Lanterns is pretty much irrelevant to the rest of the universe, it's an entertaining read but honestly it doesn't add much to the universe and it doesn't really get great until Charles Soule's Guy Gardner stuff.

Green Lantern Corps is great for getting to know more about the Green Lantern mythos, you'll see a lot more different Green Lanterns and you'll see them actually doing Green Lantern stuff... Hal's kind of a renegade, he's not that involved with the Corps really, he's just like an independent superhero who happens to have Green Lantern powers. Corps is where you'll find the real Green Lanterns, the lower ranking officers doing their jobs, being sent on missions and working as a team. That's the best book for learning about the Green Lanterns, but not so much for the whole universe.

Green Lantern New Guardians is probably the best for learning about the whole Lantern universe. It features characters from all seven Corps, so you'll learn more about all the different colour Lanterns, and later on the White Lanterns. It's also a really fun book, so I recommend it highly.
