DC Comics
Originally known as "National Publications", DC is a publisher of comic books featuring iconic characters and teams such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Justice League of America, and the Teen Titans, and is considered the originator of the American superhero genre. DC, along with rival Marvel Comics, is one of the "big two" American comic book publishers. DC Entertainment is a subsidiary of Warner Brothers and its parent company Warner Media.
Jason Todd and Bucky Barnes Are Basically the Same Person
Try actually reading comicbooks with Jason and Bucky in them.
They do share a lot of similarities not just the fact that they were former sidekicks who were killed and then came back as antagonists for their mentors, but their "evil" alter-egos came out at the same time (I think 2005). That being said, there are differences, Bucky Barnes was brainwashed by the KGB and really had no control over his actions as Winter Soldier, Jason Todd on the other hand had complete control over his actions. There's also the fact that when Steve Rogers died, it was Bucky Barnes who took over the mantle of Cap, while Jason wanted to take over when Bruce died, it was ultimately Dick Grayson who became Batman.
Bucky Barnes is more like a composite of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd.
@comicstooge: I have. Their ressurection stories are so similar, which one ripped off which?
@xwraith: lol, True
@youknowwhattodo: Thanks for that reply, which didn't reek of condescension like Stooge. I'll agree Bucky's the composit. Haven't seen the Winter Soldier movie yet, but it does make me worry that when it comes time (if ever) for a Red Hood movie - GA people will find the similarities lame and think Jason's a rip off.
Besides obvious differences they are very similar in their concepts and roles in their Batman's and cap's life.
@w3bst3r: Nobody ripped off anybody
@jonny_anonymous: If that's true, it's one hell of a coincidence that both DC and Marvel decided to resurrect sidekicks as anti heroes.
@w3bst3r: There are comparisons,but no one "ripped off of another". I f*cking hate when people say that. This isn't really directed at you,more in general.
To say that they're "basically the same person" is the most ignorant thing I've ever heard.
Both are sdekicks that are antiheroes that were resurrected......there are a few other similarities,you are definitely right in that observation,but to say that they are the same person,to say that they play the same role to Cap/Bats (which isn't true,in terms of roles,Bucky is like what Dick Grayson is to Batman. He's like the first/only son to him),isn't really true. And again,reading comics on the characters,they aren't really the similar...at all (besides the superficial similarities,which mean nothing). Might as well say that Green Arrow is the same as Hawkeye,just because they're both archers. The links are tenuous,to say the least.
@jonny_anonymous: If that's true, it's one hell of a coincidence that both DC and Marvel decided to resurrect sidekicks as anti heroes.
Yeah,except that it's also one hell of a coincidence that DC's big team has a girl from myth,and so does Marvel's....thus Thor copied off of Wonder Woman (or vice versa)......
#logic
@w3bst3r: Literally the only thing the same about the characters I'd they both come back as villains.
That's were the similarities start and end, really.
@xwraith: said Bucky doesn't hate Cap and isn't a douchebag.
This.
@cameron83: I pretty much meant they share similarities, but 'Jason Todd and Bucky Barnes Share Similarities' wouldn't have been as juicy of a title. I think a lot of people commenting think that I really am ignorant and have never read more than two comics and really mean they're the same person. I just thought their strikingly similar stories was interesting and wondered as an afterthought if one company 'ripped off' another.

Well no,no company "ripped off of another" in this regard. But you are completely right,there definitely are similarities in their stories. I'm sorry if I came off....like an ass :)
@cameron83: You're fine, fanboy rage is easily ignited, I know this well. And I knew how people would react, just didn't think it'd be nearly everybody. I was hoping for more replies like @youknowwhattodo
They are similar in the sense that both were sidekicks who were killed and later resurrected as anti-heroes. But other than that they really aren't that similar.
not in the slightest well maybe a little
brainwashed=lazarus pit
hydra=league of assasins
kill bats=kill cap
black widow=talia al ghul? (excuse my ignorants if im wrong)
come back with powers energy sword=bionic
@lifeofvibe: the similarities are uncanny

Thor is weird and all, but calling him a girl seems a little much.
@xwraith: Neither is Jason in the New 52. In the New 52 Jason and Bucky are as similar as ever.
@highlyevolved: But now it looks like they're trying to turn Dick Grayson into Bucky.

While what DC is doing with Dick Grayson is a lot like what Marvel did with Bucky at the end of "Fear Itself", unlike Bucky though, Dick Grayson is not returning to a previous alter-ego, he is becoming something different. It seems like he's going to be more like Black Widow.
Bucky Barnes and any of the Robins are the same in that they are kid sidekicks who can be traced back to the beginnings of comic book superhero history. That group also includes Speedy, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Kid Terror, Toro, Dyna Mite, etc.
Belonging to the same basic character type does not make them the same person.
That would be like claiming that Spock and Data are the same person because of their similarities.
