What are your favourite titles from the New 52? Looking to pick up a few more series so I'd be interested to know what people have been enjoying since the reboot.
DC Comics
Originally known as "National Publications", DC is a publisher of comic books featuring iconic characters and teams such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Justice League of America, and the Teen Titans, and is considered the originator of the American superhero genre. DC, along with rival Marvel Comics, is one of the "big two" American comic book publishers. DC Entertainment is a subsidiary of Warner Brothers and its parent company Warner Media.
Favourite New 52 titles?
1. Flash
2. Justice League
3. Batman
Those are pretty much the only three I've read thoroughly enough to recommend
Batman
Flash
Green Arrow
Earth 2
Batman and Robin (up until Damian's death, haven't read past there)
Nightwing.... :(
Geoff John's New 52 runs on Green Lantern and Aquaman were excellent.
1. Green Arrow
2. Aquaman
3. Swamp Thing
4. Batman
All great titles. Made me actually start to favor DC comics over Marvel, but I have always been a fan of both.
1) Aquaman - mainly taking into account Geoff Johns run, Aquaman has everything that you want a solo superhero series to have it has action, humor, complexity in its character along with character development, an engaging story-line, colorful artwork by Ivan Reiss. It's a lot of fun and if there was one series in the new 52 that I could buy the omnibus collection for, it would be this one.
2) Wonder Woman - definitely the Wonder Woman book that I've been waiting for, like Aquaman it really has a lot that I look for in a solo superhero series. I love the way the Greek Gods are portrayed. Even though it is darker than previous Wonder Woman books, it isn't grimdark and never overbearing (unlike Gail Simone's Batgirl). I think though the best part of the series is without a doubt Cliff Chiang's artwork, it is unique and does resemble Ancient Greek fresco art which really helps the aesthetic of the whole book.
3) Green Lantern: New Guardians - my favorite of all of the Green Lantern books, it starts off really fun and colorful with Lanterns from each of the color spectrum teaming up, Larfleeze is in it in all his glory. I think that Kyle Rayner in this book shows that he is the most human and relatable of the Lanterns. The book does have a shift about halfway through, as soon as Carol Ferris gets in. The only thing I will say is that you really need to read this from the beginning, I pity the poor soul who tried to jump on this series at the Annual #2.
4) Nightwing - definitely not the best series of the new 52, but it has my favorite character so yeah that's why it's here. Starts off a little slow but once the Death in the Family Tie-in kicks in the book really becomes good, I really enjoyed Dick Grayson's turn in Chicago. I've heard people complain that it became too similar to Spider-Man but at the same time I've always viewed Dick Grayson as DC's Peter Parker so I didn't have a problem with it, I'd say from issue 18, it read like the Nightwing book I've always wanted to read but of course it had to end. It's hard to comment on the artwork because it constantly changes.
5) Animal Man - even though it is touted here on CV, I still think that among the comic-book audience this book is really underrated. It is relatively consistent, emotional storytelling and even though I'm still on the fence about whether or not I'm a fan of Animal Man as a character, I definitely have a lot more respect for him. It's not for everybody but if you're looking for a B or C list DC character to get to know better, I'd say go for Animal Man.
These are not in any particular order but:
Green Lantern (both Johns and Venditti)
Flash (under Manupal and Buccellato, and Venditti and Jensen have just started and I don't dislike what they're doing so far aside from the obvious Wally issue which is a topic for another time)
Green Lantern: New Guardians (under Bedard but NOT Jordan)
Green Arrow (under Lemire)
JLD (under Lemire)
JLU (also Lemire)
Aquaman (both Johns and Parker)
Demon Knights (under any of its writers)
Red Hood and the Outlaws (under Tynion)
Earth Two (under Robinson, but the more Tom Taylor writes it, the less interesting it gets.)
Threshold (Giffen and Dematteis)
JLA's Vibe (was Sterling Gate for most of its run but the fist issue was by Johns)
Batman Eteranl (co-written by a plethora of writers)
I've also really enjoyed what I've read so far of both Wonder Woman and All-Star Western.
Wonder Woman ... IMO has been the most consistent title of the N52, Azzarello has stayed away from crossing over with other titles which has made for a great solo series that is focused on WW and her supporting characters. You can pick this title up and read the entire run without venturing into multiple titles and not miss a beat.
Aquaman ... the first couple of arcs were fantastic, since then it's lost some of it's appeal. First year or so was a great new take on the character and his cast and kept things clean as a strong solo series with little cross over.
Batbooks ... Only problem is how many there are ... they get a little convoluted and hard to follow month to month and there are way to many cross overs between them. But each of the main titles is individually pretty strong (Batman, Dark Knight and Batgirl being my personal favs), but it's hard to read one without reading the others and it can become an investment of both time and money each month.
JL ... a little hit or miss, but mostly good stuff until the hot mess that was Forever Evil brought with it (so underwhelmed with how this was managed) ... again, too hard to follow with all the title jumping and release schedules for some of the titles made the timeline muddy, it was hard to tell what events were happening first when one title released earlier in the month, but had events that happened after another title that wasn't yet on the shelves.
Overall I'd say the first year of N52's main titles were all pretty strong (Batman, WW, Aquaman, Flash, GL, Flash, GA and Action Comics) since then it's gotten weaker, or perhaps just hasn't fulfilled on the early promise ... too many titles shuttered after very short runs and too many cross-title events that require too much time and money to follow.
@jdhaddad1973: Good list - I personally don't buy into the whole crossover thing, I won't buy a comic just because it completes the story of another, I feel that's a waste of my money. I have to agree with you (and most people who have replied so far) that Batman, Aquaman and Wonder Woman have all been great, and I'm really enjoying Green Lantern and Red Lanterns as well.
Also, this isn't really relevant, but is your display picture a Batman version of the "marriage equality" flag? Because if so, awesome.
Huh, it's difficult for me to choose, I like quite a few New 52 titles pretty much. My favorites are Earth 2, Green Arrow, Wonder Woman and Sinestro (I know, it is still pretty short, but he is my all-time fav character, so I'm quite biased about this book).
@minisaladfresh: yes my pic is a marriage equality batman symbol ... Glad you like it ... I'm am certain Bruce would approve and support the cause and we all know what Diana's views are :)
I have to say for Earth 2 and Justice league Dark is my favorite series in the new 52,I strongly recommend them!
@drthanos91: I read the first volume of Earth 2 last year, I didn't rate it much honestly. Does it get better later on or is it just not for me?
@minisaladfresh: at first was skepitcal of it too,but the first volume is what brought me into it,A world still reeling from Apokolips onslaught and the lost of their heroes leave a sort of hole in them, yet hear are these new (or rather old names rebooted) to come and become the new league, the new wonders..although there are some kinks in it,like batman(not batman) ans superman ,and m not ragging on them being in it, just like the idea of a multiverse with different themes ya know, all the famliar names we all know and love will be in it...,sorry f this is long winded, I say its worth a continued reading if you are interested,,I think you may see a cross over to the main comic n the near future, but thats what hope lol
Wonder Woman, Justice league, and Aquaman.
I'd also admit that although I WAS fairly skeptical about Superman/Wonder Woman, I'm actually enjoying it.
The ones I read:
Grayson, Aquaman, Green Lantern, Red Lanterns, Sinestro, Action Comics. (Surprisingly not one Batman book is in my faves list.
Edit: Can't forget injustice
1. Wonder Woman
2. Batman
3. Grayson ( I did not like Higgins' Nightwing, but surprisingly really like the new role for Dick!)
4. Justice League
