    DC Comics

    Publisher »

Originally known as "National Publications", DC is a publisher of comic books featuring iconic characters and teams such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Justice League of America, and the Teen Titans, and is considered the originator of the American superhero genre. DC, along with rival Marvel Comics, is one of the "big two" American comic book publishers. DC Entertainment is a subsidiary of Warner Brothers and its parent company Warner Media.

Do you think DC should change their name?

I mean come on... 'Detective Comics'?.. I understand that was probably their main line of comics back in the day, but it doesn't fit it anymore.
What would you change it to if you had the chance?

Why would you change it? What would be the reason to fix something that isn't broken?

Well, it's not really "Detective Comics" anymore. Now it's just "DC". Sort of like KFC. Probably most people don't even know what it stands for.
If I had to change it though, I'd call it "Eye-Explodingly Awesome Comics".

    it stands for detective comics.
almost 3/4 of their comic books have nothing to do with detectives. basically it just represents batman.

but. it would cause alot of confusion if it was to be changed.
they should just come up with a new meaning for 'DC'

Well Batman and the name DC do go hand and hand with the public (comic reader or not), but I mean why change it when it doesn't need changing? I mean Marvel was named after Marvel Comics, which isn't even a comic now, should we change Marvel as well? I just don't see the point in changing something that is perfectly fine the way it is.

     EDIT MADE
I see your point, but Marvel is kind of different. Yes it was named after the marvel comic series, but Marvel basically means something that causes wonder or admiration, so it goes good with it.. DC directly means detective comics, and points out a certain genre of comics and  just doesn't fit with all that has been done with their comics.

if it came down to it tho, i wouldn't change DC's name. the question just came across my mind and was curious of what everyone would say.

nope. the names meaning doesnt matter anymore.
its a household name, thats what does.
besides if it changed, it would change to
Time Warner Comics by default. who knows, maybe
the family of some long dead DC Comics will sue them for the name and
    theyll change it *grimace*.

That's the most ludicrous thing I ever heard. That's like GM changing their name. "Hey I know every one knows us as General Motors, but we don't do 'motors in general' anymore, so we're going to change our name to SM, Specific Motors; you know because we do specific motors now."

i dont see the point in changing the name or DC's meaning.
there still is a detective comics, and its paying homage to one of their oldest and best selling comics. technically, DC has more meaning than Marvel, seeing as how they technically had no reason to name their company that. I mean, with the character Captain Marvel existing and selling well before they even changed their name, from timely to atlas to marvel, i feel like they where assholes to even name themselves that.
defiantly dont see why anyone would even think about DC changing their name.

DC is such a classic name though. Plus they've set up a brand identity, it would be difficult to set up a new one (and financially risky in this day and age). Besides, at the heart of Batman are still great detective stories.

Maybe it should be "Immortal Comics".
