DC's Next Animated Movie.

Posted by Suprman (439 posts) - 11 months, 9 days ago - Show Bio

Ok so DC just released Superman VS. The Elite. I know that they are doing The Dark Knight Returns as the next feature, which is being released as two parts. But my question is what do you guys think they should do after that? What other DC stories do we want animated?

Here is a list of the DC stories that I want to see

1. Teen Titans: The Judas Contract

2. The Sinestro Corps War

3. A Flash Origin story

4. Superman Birthright

5. Emperor Joker

6. Kingdom Come

What do you guys think?

DC is scared they may lose money due to lack of popularity with other characters as some other DVDs  (Green Lantern) didn't preform too well. This is the reason why they strictly have been releasing straight Superman and Batman related movies as opposed to tapping into all their characters

I was heavily looking forward to the Teen Titans Judas Contract adaption which was canceled....however, I have Young Justice now, so I'm good :)

Otherwise, an original Flash origin film would be what I would want to see the most

Someone told me that they were going to do a Flashpoint animated movie. Anything as long as it isn't based on Superman, Batman, Green Lantern or Justice League is fine by me. They should surprise us with an Outsiders movie or something from VERTIGO like Swamp Thing or Hellblazer.

Return Of Barry Allen

Godfall

#4 Posted by Suprman (439 posts) - 11 months, 9 days ago - Show Bio

@cattlebattle: Yeah I love Young Justice too. I'm actually really confused on why they axed their plans for Judas Contract. The return of a Teen Titans series proves that there is a HUGE audience for the material. And it's not like people aren't familiar with that story, The cartoon had a two-part episode that featured that story. It just confuses the hell out of me. I do love the Batman and Superman stories they are putting out but I want my Titans and something different.

#5 Posted by Suprman (439 posts) - 11 months, 9 days ago - Show Bio

@Twentyfive: I also heard rumors of that and a Blackest Night movie but to be honest, I'd rather see the Sinestro Corps. War. But as long as Warner Brothers is going to be coming out with Movies like Dark Knight and Man of Steel and even Green Lantern that's all we're going to get with these animated features. It's a shame but that's the nature of the business.

I explained it in my post, the Teen Titans film, along with a Flash movie and a Wonder Woman sequel were canceled because DC was afraid t take chances as their DTVs that didn't feature Batman and Superman weren't selling as well

One of the biggest rumors floating around right now is that the next film after DKR part 2 will be a Flashpoint feature. This comes from an interview with Kevin Conroy I believe where he said he was working on a feature where Batman and Flash teamed up. If the Flashpoint rumor IS true I would be more than happy. Ive been wanting more animated Flash for a long time

#8 Posted by 4thhorseman (72 posts) - 11 months, 9 days ago - Show Bio

Wouldn't complain if they made Panic in the Sky a animated film.

#9 Posted by Suprman (439 posts) - 11 months, 9 days ago - Show Bio

@cattlebattle: You know that still confuses me. Like I said, there is a HUGE following for Teen Titans. There must be otherwise DC animation wouldn't be bringing back the cartoon or producing the shorts that they are doing now in DC nation. Plus Young Justice has big following. There is no WAY they would be losing money over making a Teen Titans animated feature. My guess is that Warner Brothers wants movies that feature characters that are in their non-animated films otherwise they wouldn't have made GL Emerald Knights, or these Superman and Batman movies.

#10 Posted by Suprman (439 posts) - 11 months, 9 days ago - Show Bio

@noj: That sounds like Flashpoint. I wouldn't mind seeing that especially since I love Andy Kubert's artwork.

Well that's the thing, they made Emerald Knights to semi-accompany the release of the live action film, and its sales did poorly, thats when they started canceling non Superman and Batman centric projects...they likely tallied it up to First Flight and made the decision

I think what DC should do first is keep doing short animated films to add to the full ones, but what they should do different this time is actually listen to reviews of that short to see if they should expand upon it in that direction.

One I desperately would like see is Batman: Sword of Azrael

If they do what I mentioned earlier think a 'Wild Dog' short to introduce the character with one of the terrorists attacks he intervened in, then if its well received then they make a full film based off the first mini-series but keep the secret on who he is while giving little hints such as flash backs of the start of his 'Wild Dog' career, which was only told at the last issue.

A Hawk & Dove short would be awesome.

But just because I'm a big nerd that likes fantasizing here's my super unlikely animated film list: Batman Grendel animated film, Heckler, Lobo, Shining Knight, and Ambush Bug.

Flash, Green Arrow, or Captain Marvel

#14 Posted by Gambit1024 (9878 posts) - 11 months, 9 days ago - Show Bio

I'd love to see adaptations of Superman: Birthright and Batman: Hush.

Flash seriously needs an origin movie, and I'd love to see a standalone Aquaman movie.

For animated shorts, I'd like to see Zatanna, Booster Gold, The Rogues, and Larfleez.

Red Son, too. But if I had to choose one Superman story, it'd be Birthright.

Here's what I think they should do:

  • Wonder Woman sequel
  • Aquaman
  • Captain Marvel
  • Batman Beyond

I'll add more if I think of any.

I want something with the pre-flashpoint JSA... I'm a Supes fanboy but I think Bats and Supes are a bit overdone. If they make another JLA, I would want a Kingdom Come miniseries.

Teen Titan movie would be Dope

I really cant think of anything else besides Nightwing or Red Robin or something like that

I doubt WW, FLASH, Aquaman, Hawkman, J'on J'onnz, and anyone else will see a light of day any time soon.

Batman: Under the Red HOOD best Animated Movie DC has made.

PS

How would FLASH's movie be any good?

seriously asking not hating.

Despite what people say, according to The Numbers website, Wonder Woman and the first Green Lantern did well. I think DC/WB should take more chances and stop shoving Bats/Supes down our throats. At least the Justice League movies give us a chance to see our other favorite heroes. I heard Flashpoint is on its way after another Bat film. Kingdom Come would be a dream come true if done correctly. Red Son or The Nail, maybe? More originals movies would be good also.

#23 Posted by JediXMan (22948 posts) - 11 months, 9 days ago - Show Bio

I want Judas Contract.

Between Red Son and Kingdom Come, I choose Red Son. Now I much prefer Kingdom Come - it's not even close for me. But Red Son is much more linear and easier to adapt to a movie. Kingdom Come just had a lot going on and it was more complicated. And let's be honest: Alex's Ross' art would not transfer very well to an animated movie, and to not use his style would cheapen it.

That and I'd be less pissed off if they screwed up Red Son.

#24 Posted by Suprman (439 posts) - 11 months, 9 days ago - Show Bio

@StuckOnEuropa: thanks for the figures that really helps. I hate to sound like I'm beating a dead horse but this means they would be best off adapting Judas Contract or another major titans story. The fans would eat it up. Judas Contract would be perfect because everyone who watched the cartoon has seen a version of that story. Now with the new version coming out next fall, I think, it would perfect to release a Teen Titans movie. Sales would skyrocket.

Batman Hush would be brilliant. Same with a Flash feature movie. Maybe even a Blackest night but they would have to split it up into 2 movies.
