Homophobic means being afraid of gays. I'm against and don't like it... I don't hate no one though.
Same reason Obama decided to change his opinion on gay marriage. It is all politics, or in DC's case, money. Same reason for diversifying the main cast of JL, and the YJ line of books.
I'm not gay, but I am all for adding more kinds of characters. When it's needed, it will add layers to storytelling (look at Batwoman: Elegy). Otherwise, you might as well be saying/telling the same old stories over and over forever.
I think its just a natural progression. Had DC been ahead of the curve and been more diverse with their characters originally they wouldn't have to manufacture straight characters into gay. But it is what it is now. I dont really have a problem with it.

Fixed.

@AweSam: Hahaha you know whats crazy, I originally had that written in there. Superman too. Stop reading my mind son.
I don't think they'd risk any of the vastly more popular characters such as Superman, Batman, Flash, GL due to enormous outrage that would most likely occur.
I'm still laughing that someone mentioned Vibe as the "major, Iconic" character turning gay. I have no problem with them turning vibe gay, but I cannot tolerate people calling him major or iconic or relevant
This was my guess in a similar thread. Now they're saying it's someone who hasn't been reintroduced into the New 52. The Atom? Plastic Man? Elongated Man? Metamorpho?
Its probably going to be Wally but since Johns hates Wally fans he's probably going to be an offensive gay stereotype that Warners will force them to get rid of asap

@joshmightbe: Dun think so. The story line will appear in June. And Wally West is not solicited and he wouldn't be around for a while as according to the Flash writers.
So its definitely not Wally.

DC's excuse for Wally not being around is that they don't want to de-age him and erase his kids but with Barry being younger they don't want them to be the same age, if the excuse is genuine then it's not Wally
@BlackArmor: That's BS they don't want to bring back Wally because Johns wants all his precious silver age guys back, that's why Kyle was marginalized in GL. I'm willing to bet that the only reason he didn't throw Dick Grayson back down to Robin is because his bosses told him not to make any huge changes to Batman
@Gambler: I don't as long as its not Shazam/Captain Marvel, Superman, Batman..... Someone I actually care about.
And Yeah I was thinking Plastic Man too.
If its a villain, its going to be such a let down. I mean, who cares right. Unless he is a super iconic.....
OMG. Its LEX LUTHOR.
Well I guess that means it's not Wonder Woman. Or Superman, thank Christ.
...But this is making me fear that it'll end up being Wally West. And I am totally not cool with that.
@joshmightbe: Maybe, like I said I'm not sure that's their genuine reason but it may be true that they just don't want to kill Wally's kids and that he'll pop up soon, but since that's the reason, excuse, lie, or whatever it was that they used to justify his absence I'm pretty sure that Wally if he still exist is still straight
@Lantern Prime: Isn't Plastic Man not very iconic. Also, Isn't it weird to see Plastic Man gay. I mean with his abilities and all.

@sethysquare: I know that but I also know when he took over he pretty much started erasing character progression for the sake of bringing back Hal (Seriously I Hate Hal Jordan) and Barry. I love Barry but he had one of the most iconic and heroic deaths in DC history and Johns ruined it by bringing him back

Dun think its up to him. And if you think about it, Hal and Barry needed to come back to have their movie appearance sync with the comics. Its impossible to tell an origins story of Wally and Kyle without mentioning Hal and Barry.
This was probably the reason why DC wasn't able to do a movie adaptation for so long. Thats just my thought.

To be honest I can't think of anyone else iconic that DC hasn't already introduced to the New 52. Which leads me to the possible conclusion that it could be Wally who the powers that be will turn gay. Fans want Wally back but I'm not sure if changing his sexuality will be for the best.
I gotta say DC really topped themselves, Marvel is getting a gay marriage, but this guessing game has got the whole internet going crazy. We got several threads on this and Marvel's gay marriage is just sitting by the corner. Marvel used to be the ones that grabbed headlines like this. Looks like the tables are turned now.

To quote one of my friends:
"Gay is the new dead."
...After a few scratches of my head, I'd have to say that this is surprisingly interesting "theory" for a lack of a better term. I wonder if this will pan out to be the truth.

I'm going to be the odd man out and believe that they were really making a pun when they said "iconic" and say it's Icon. Major could just imply his status back when Milestone was it's own.
A gay, black super man, I believe Bill O'Rielly's head would actually explode
