They should just modernize the classic yet awesome '74 logo, the whole retro thing appeals to their new target demographic of kids with no money, emo's and posers...

If your logo is so vague and potentially confusing that you need to include text along with it to further clarify that it is a DC comic then the designers have failed, the text is taking too much space too.

It's ok for a corporate logo but not for the one they put on the actual comic books. As for the Watchmen one it means absolutely nothing, it could be one they'll use for future releases of the Watchmen graphic novel.

Right when DC did something freaking awesome (rebooting) they give us a crappy logo. Why didnt they put this on the issue 1's? Also it doesn't scream DC! to me it just seems like an off brand of comic book rip offs I would see at the dollar store.

This will look cool in digital format specially if the logos have are something like an animated gif

I love the change. It makes the logo seem more modern and works well in all formats. Keep up the great work DC!

It does seem like DC is kind of a mess and unorganized. Why not do this months ago along w/the New 52 launch? Also just look at their website, it looks kind of bland and it's still sporting the old logo.

But i do like the new logo. Much better than the old one, not that there's anything wrong w/the old one but it does seem outdated when compared to the new one. The swoop reminds me of something you see in a Saturday morning cartoon during the 80s. The new one is sleeker, cleaner and I like the theme of flipping one letter to reveal the next like you would an actual comic book. Then to change the logo based on character or series is a nice added touch.

It's interesting. Definitely a pretty dig change, but I think I dig it. It would be been cool if they had updated the Vertigo logo as well.

Also, did anyone else notice the numbering on that Batman issue they have in one of the illustrations?

Ughh...that is one ugly logo. Looks like internet explorer icon you click on. the current one isn't that old. and the one they had before that was around for awhile at least 20 years.

Marvel hasn't changed there logo, why is DC wanting to change it for anyway? plus I can only see the C part of the logo I can't see the D of it.

Marvel actually has changed it semi-recently, up until 2011 I believe they were using the Marvel.com one mostly, can't remember how long that one lasted for though. Marvel mostly changes the design of elements around the logo though instead of the main logo like how they moved the issue number into its own little box for most issues now.

Updated to add:

In 2001 they dropped the logo and went with a banner at the top of all comics that said Marvel Comics.

2002 went to the single red box for Marvel, issue number and PSR. PSR was dropped eventually.

End of 2005 it switched to Marvel.com + issue number and kept going until early December of 2011.

Current logo started up in December of 2011.

What a darn shame. It looks terrible :(

i like DC having a blue logo and Marvel having a red logo, it's quick and easy recognition. not a big fan of this change...

Hold on... how is including paper in the logo making it digital friendly?

It seems like they're just refreshing it for a more modern aesthetic & that's fine, but the "making it more digital friendly" thing seems strange & is probably just a marketing thing to help promote their digital presence when discussing the new logo.

Edit: Unless they're trying to point out the medium that this content was originally made for to people. That way it could be more grounded/familiar on a device where content is consumed in many other ways... just a thought :-/

the farther DC stays from Vertigo the better, it still needs some alone time after the last time DC bent it over a table.

Don't really understand why it needs updating, but I do like the nuances of different effects on the C, rather than keep it constant.

It's not needed at all, but it doesn't look too bad on official issues.

I prefer the current logo. This one is alright but I don't see the need to update it.

That bottom left one reminds me of the TF2 logo.

I still think it looks like a dull pharmaceutical corporation logo.

I just find it really strange for a publisher who publishes mainly superhero comics. It's super understated, and not at all what you'd expect from a bombastic superhero book.

I think that's what's messing me up right now. It's a pretty cool logo, but doesn't seem like it fits the subject matter. And again, it really doesn't matter in the long run.

I don't know, I'm kinda mixed on this. I think most of us hate it right now because we don't like change, just like how everyone always hates layout changes on facebook and youtube. But after a while, you get used to it and don't mind. This logo definitely has a very modern aesthetic to it, which is good with the new 52 and all. However, like others have pointed out, you can't really see the "D"...it isn't really recognizable as a DC logo. And overall it is...kinda ugly imo. It is kinda cool how they can variate it for different characters and whatnot though. So...I don't know. It is what it is.

I like the older one better. Will this make Vertigo change as well?

It looks pretty bad, should just stay with the one they have now. A year in development and this is what they come up with?? bla. I think if they wanted to change something just add a box to the one they have now and in print put 'Entertainment' under the spin... That mighta worked but they didn't really need to change it anyway..

i dont mind it, but i think it looks alot better on the actual comic than in digital version, my only peeve with the new logo is that first glance you cant see the D in DC comics, you have to think abuot it to see it, and its not very original, it doesnt scream comic book

Really? this is how DC chooses to spend their money? Why not anatomy lessons for Rob Liefeld? The logo looked fine, I couldn't see any reason to alter it.

My guess was that they kept the blue logo because people knew them with this one, and now that they the New 52 are a few months old they can change the logo without confusing the new readers brought by the New 52...

By the way, I do love this new logo, but "DC Comics" written beside it does suck.

Still don't like it, but the color adds to it. The different stuff depending on how it's used reminds me of the EA logo. Which makes me feel a bit better, I guess.
