DC Unveils New, Modern Logo [Updated]

Posted by Babs (17348 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

You may have seen rumors of DC Comics' brand new logo. Sources had hinted that the publisher submitted the new logo but nothing was really confirmed until today. Earlier the logo was unveiled on Fast Company's website. The image of a D being pulled back (likening to a page of a comic) to reveal a C is very different than the previous logo and appears to be much cleaner and more "digital friendly."

“The peel element can tie back to the storytelling content or character we’re showcasing, and leverage those colors,“ says Desai. "The 'C’ can be a vessel to showcase stories and character. It’s unexpected, requires a little thinking and some storytelling behind that mark.”

The publisher revealed their new trademark very clean, black and white trademark logo as well as a variety of different takes on the same logo -- each commemorating a different major DC superhero. The image above depicts six of the different logos that readers may begin to see in circulation. Some characters and concepts that will be celebrated via the logo include Green Lantern, The Flash and Watchmen. The reason for the change? The company wanted to revamp their logo to coincide not only with the revamp of DC Entertainment, but to also commemorate the changes that have taken place like same day digital and the launch of "the new 52."

== TEASER ==

This is not the first time DC has changed their logo, either. The publisher recently modernized their logo in 2005 showcasing the blue and white slanted font encircled by a single star. Business insider recently created a gallery of all of DC's logos through the years which you can check out here. What do you think of the change? Do you like DC's new logo? Do you care?

Update

The Source posted more images of the new logo, check them out below.

Looks much better in the digital form. Not sure how it will look on paper.

They should have rolled this out in September along with everything else.

Can't say that I am loving it but could be worse.

I wasn't that excited when the original black and white logo was floating around, but I actually really like this! I'm curious to see how it turns out when it starts showing up on covers.

That actually looks pretty cool! Not a huge fan of the black licorice looking one, but the others are very nice.

No.

#9 Posted by ImperiousRix (1069 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

Well it certainly looks "modern". I don't think they needed to update the logo as really it's the last thing they should worry about, but I suppose it doesn't look bad.

Now can you not have Rob Liefeld be on so many of your titles, DC?

Hot diggity that's a sexy logo... But why not release it 5 months ago with the start of The New 52?

#14 Posted by Iraito (6 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

it's decent in black and white, but colored ?

not so much

#15 Posted by Izaiah (4939 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

It looks better than I expected.

Well with that Watchmen based logo its now only a matter of time before the prequel is released.

Nice, I actually love it. Altough I seem to be one of the few who does.

#20 Posted by Taylors005 (96 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

i think the watchmen logo is going to stir even more rumors for a return to those characters

The logo is ugly, it definitely can't be the replacement of the current logo, this an early april fools joke

What no Batman? No Batman. No good. that's my motto
#27 Posted by wowylied (235 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

I really don't care, the logo will change nothing in the different title.

#28 Posted by Cakeman3000 (44 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

Well, I like it. Especially how it changes with the hero. At first I only saw the GL one so for a second I thought DC was going eco-friendly or something.

#29 Posted by Daveyo520 (2446 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

I still kinda miss the log from before 05 actually.

#30 Edited by BerserkerBeastman (3 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

Were people compaining about the old logo that they had to change it? Do they think a new logo will boost sales?

Still not dumb as hiring Liefeld.

#31 Posted by EdBlank (313 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

The impression I have of DC is that they can't get their act together. Constant re-boots and logo changes. This one is weak. The previous one was waaay better.

#32 Posted by Baddamdog (2221 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

So very meh.

Why didn't they change th logo the same time as the new 52? This is another major change that should of happened back in September. Seems like bad business to me.

#33 Posted by Nova`Prime` (3929 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

That is about as bad as the Mets ripping off the Dominos logo. For a company that employees really good artiest you'd think they could have came up with something better. Probably hired some young hipster start out of college who doesn't know a think about comics or DC in general to make that good awful logo, it reminds me of the Apple logo for some reason.. could be the shininess.

#34 Posted by Sawcesome (62 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

That looks awful.

#35 Posted by frogjitsu (324 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

I like their current one, but the green lantern variant of the new one is cool.

#36 Posted by darkrider (353 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

bad bad bad

#37 Posted by Decept-O (6694 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

Don't like it. At all.

#38 Posted by Omega Ray Jay (6398 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

I think the current one really suits them well, it hasn't really aged to badly but this doesn't look very good at all

Agreed....but still not good

#41 Posted by kagato (225 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

I hate it, i really really hate it lol, its not going to stop me buying the comics or watching the movies but god its horrible!

#42 Posted by Kurtisimus (5 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

Did anyone else notice that in the last picture the batman comic is number 708? What's that all about?

#43 Posted by Mbecks14 (1995 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

It's just boring. I'm not usually "that guy" but it's a really really lame logo. It's pathetically mundane. It looks better colored. But the old logo was bold and powerful. This is a dull lazy design. I'm ok with the idea of a new logo, but they could've come up with something better.

Disappointing.

#44 Posted by Aronmorales (9329 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

Heh-hehe, they've got a Watchmen variant.

#45 Posted by benhoot (18 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

They do look real good in color and I do like how the colors change with the title character. They look much better on the comics themselves than they do alone. Always loved the 1976 circular logo tho

The watchmen colored one does spark interest tho, why would watchmen need a specific logo unless something wasn't planned? I know there's rumors of more watchmen related material in prequels and DC showing this off only adds fuel to the fires of these rumors

Nooooo :(

The only cool ones in my view are the black rigged one and the green lantern inspired one.

The new icon still doesn't sit well with me, but it seems to translate well enough on that hardcover's binding...

I think the current logo is just fine. Don't care for this one.

Terrible. I'm not one of these purists who never want things to change but these look ugly.

and lol at the logo with the black liquorice wrapped around it.
