It wouldn't be so bad if the characters in question where lesser known heroes (or villains). But the problem is when you take an established hero (or villain) and make the change abruptly. Then that's where alot of tension builds.

If it did turn out to be her, I wouldn't mind. Honestly, if she didn't fall for John Stewart in JLU, I wouldn't've been surprised if she turned out to be a lesbian.
Great let's be honest. More LGBT people are needed in comics, it's just so unlikely to have that many superheros and not a single one of them being homosexual/transgendered. Wether it's relevant to their superhero stories is another thing...
And I think we're all forgetting about Silhouette who should be prominent in the Before Watchmen: Minutemen series. She's a lesbian and let's be honest, that's really no bad thing. The woman is beautiful.

No MM has had a wife and children. If he was something other then hetero he would be omnisexual considering he can be both a male, female or both even. I don't remember were but I remember something was said that martians viewed genders differently then humans and that chose what they wanted to be. Sometimes switching over their life time.

Honchos at Superman’s comic book home, DC Comics, said this weekend that one of their most identifiable (but as of yet unnamed) straight characters will soon be coming out of the closet, according to a report.

No, and I was there. Dan DiDio, DC Comics co-publisher said that a previously established characters would have a different sexual orientation when introduced to the current New 52 continuity. In the way that Morgan Edge became black, Etta Candy became thin, and the like.
They didn’t say one of their “most identifiable characters”. And Superman has already been introduced to this continuity.
Which also means, ScienceFiction.com, that it won’t be Damian Wayne, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy or Tim Drake…
If ABC is to believed and they're not just making this up:
“One of the major iconic DC characters will reveal that he is gay in a storyline in June,” Courtney Simmons, DC Entertainment’s senior vice president of publicity, confirmed to ABC News.
So that would mean that it's definitely a man, and it's also an "iconic" character, who is apparently so iconic he managed to not be included in the New 52. Although I have to wonder if the interpretation we got from Bleeding Cool was a bit off, and that it might not be that a character who hasn't appeared yet in the New 52 will come back as gay, but just that a character who has appeared already in the New 52 without a specified orientation will be revealed to be gay.
If it's the former, I can't think of any iconic characters, although it would be interesting if it were the Question (Vic Sage, not Montoya), just because it would mean having him back, and I really like him. Although seeing how he was done in the Free Comic Book Day comic makes me not so sure how I'd feel about that.
If it had to be a character we've seen, I'd totally pull for Damian, although he's a bit young right now, and he has no established sexual orientation as far as I know. I'd hate for it to be Martian Manhunter, since while I love him, the fact that two gay characters couldn't get me to read Stormwatch means I doubt a third will. It could be a Green Lantern other than Hal; that would be a way to skirt around the "iconic" issue.
Also, no one ever said it was a hero, just that it was an established character. So for all we know it could be Black Adam, or Vandal Savage, or...um...Alfred. Okay, probably not Vandal Savage, since he has, like, thousands of daughters, but still...Alfred!
this is pretty stupid IMO. The fact that they will change the sexual orientation of a established character is quite retarded. i`m not a homophobe but to change a character is not right. If the gay community wants cool gay characters they should create some and if they`ll be good enough they`ll become iconic in time. I wrote some stories and i`ve created some characters and i would really hate for some guy to come along and reinvent my characters with other sexual orientations. i`m oky with updating a character but updating and changing is a totally different thing.
