This morning we saw the latest on Batman. What about the ladies of Gotham? DC continues with the announcements. Batman is cool and all but we want to know about the ladies, right? If it's one thing that DC has lots of it's books featuring female characters.

First we have the long awaited Batwoman #1, originally set for release in April. There has been speculation about why the book was delayed but it all makes sense now. Why start a new series only to have it revamped a few months later? It is still set to have the creative team of J.H. Williams III, Haden Blackman and Amy Reeder.

Are you ready for a crazy one? Batgirl #1 featuring a certain red-headed Batgirl (see image below). What?!? Heck yeah, my curiosity has been piqued. Working on Batgirl will be Gail Simone with Ardian Syaf and Vicente Cifuentes on art.

Catwoman #1 returns with Judd Winick writing and Guillem March doing the art. Will this Catwoman be good or bad?

Finally, Birds of Prey will continue to patrol the streets of Gotham only the team roster appears a little different (see below). Set to be Gotham's covert ops team, they will be taking down the villains that the heroes can't touch. It will be written by Duane Swierczynski with art by Jesus Saiz.

Not happy about replacing Steph (or so it looks) as Batgirl. Gail Simone as write gives me faith though. BoP looks ... different.

I know a lot of people will like seeing Barbara back as Batgirl but I wanted Cassandra or Stephanie. I'm used to Babs as Oracle and now the Birds Of Prey look weird without her. I dont even know those characters in the BOP cover

For the sheer fact that Gail Simone is writing Batgirl I'm pretty excited.
As for her being Barbara? Ehhhh bring it on

While I am glad that Barbara is back as Batgirl, I'm going to miss her being Oracle. And I can't wait to check out Batwoman and Catowman.

Well, I'm happy at the announcements, for sure. This means we're absolutely getting Batwoman as part of this big push. I think we need more information about who Batgirl is before a final judgment is made but I'm picking up all of these, no question.

I think the Batgirl book is the most interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing Gail write Barbara as Batgirl.

IGN just announced that Batgirl IS Barbara Gordon.

Well, ummm, Gail working on Batgirl is just awsum, but putting Barbra back into the role? I' not to sure of that, i mean where do Cass and steph stand in the DCU now? 
 
As for the other titles, im not so interested. It looks like the put Canary back into her 80s(?) costume again...... you know the one that she burnt on the cover of one issue.

Ok I ike Black Canary's torso but cut off the arm padding from the shoulder to the forearm and cut off the collar and give her boots back O_O 
Um I like poison Ivy being more conservative but I think that is a bit much for her character 

I'm very optimistic about all the other titles, but Birds of Prey doesn't come off as Birds of Prey to me....And I really, really, really don't like Poison Ivy's look or Black Canary's (?)....

This is all really disappointing news. Just as Cassandra was working her way back into continuity and Selina was steady with Bruce we're rebooting? Sad developments for my favorite DC ladies. 

The one in the middle looks like Lady Shiva. Or it could be Roulette of all people, she' s the only female I know with a dragon tattoo in DC.

I might pickup Batgirl and Batwoman see how it goes

F*****G BULL! YOU CAN'T HAVE THE BIRDS WITHOUT ORACLE! Nerdrage is on full blast! I hate you Duane and Jesus, you haven't even started yet and I hate you.

Plus, I don't like the costume designs of any of the Birds. Ivy isn't a hero, Canary looks too yellow (and what's with those circles on her forearms?) Katana looks like a stereotype, and I have a feeling that's a villain in the middle. Where's Huntress? Where's Lady Blackhawk? Where are Hawk and Dove? Other than Black Canary there isn't even a bird theme here. 
 
PS, was I the only one who thought Catwoman's goggles was a bra for a sec. I swear I had to do a double take because i was like "why is her lingerie on that ledge? and why is it drawn like it's very far away?"

HELL YES for Batgirl..

I think Babs "earned" that cape back. While she was a "pillar" of information in the digital realm I did miss her as Batgirl. She may have adapted after the incident but she's been more in the shadows. It's good she gets her own little spotlight. 
 
As for the Birds of Prey I'm intrigued !!! The details are sketchy but I'm hoping for the best. I'm having the impression that the new BoP will be something of a replacement for the Secret Six. Going outside the rules with a mixed team that can beat down on the criminals.
 
As for Batwoman I'm very skeptical. We just got a "new" version of her in Batman Inc so will this one be a revamp of keep things in the same continuity(which I seriously doubt)?

Except for Catwoman, I really don't care.

Also I must say that Black Canary's outfit is quite a awful. I mean... it looks like she's got slippers, fishnet-like leggings, black panties and then a fishnet blouse with a big blue body armor and shoulderpads. 
 
Aside from that the other characters look ok. The Batgirl suit looks like a cross between Catwoman's leather outfit from the Batman Returns and Stephanie's outfit.

Birds of Prey was probably my favourite DC title. This new version does not do it for me at all, based on this image. I picked up Black Canary and Poison Ivy but I don't know the other two. They might as well call this Gotham City Sirens of Prey.
 
I wasn't reading Batgirl before but it seemed to me it was doing pretty well with Steph under the cowl. In any case, I may have to jump ship and follow Gail Simone over to Batgirl this fall.
 
Still jonesing for Batwoman, though. I've been waiting for almost a year now.

I'm glad Barbara is back in action but I don't think becoming batgirl again is a very good idea. And what's up with the Birds Of Prey? What did they do to Black Canary? Why is Poison Ivy there? Don't mean to sound negative or anything but this is just unexpected.

Birds of Prey designs are tear inducing. WTF were they thinking?! Just add them to the list of over-designed characters that will need toning down/fixing (cough firestorm wonder woman cyborg cough)
