So I am fairly new to reading comics. I started reading some old batman stories that were put in reading order

I was on comixology the other day and saw how the new arch for swap thing animal man and green latern has a specific reading order.

I don't plan to catch up on New 52 until maybe another story arch is out. but i have been collecting them.

My question is where can i find all he reading orders for New 52 for I guess each story arc?

or is it fine just to read the full story arch for 1 series then read the other, but I would assume that doesnt work because for swap thing and animal man rotworld has part 1 and part 2 so you would obviously have to read part 1 first.

any help appreciated, I hope I explained my question well

edit: i was able to find these reading orders made by DC for these story arc im guessing DC saying to read batman 1-7 then start on the list they put up and finish with rest of batman.

    No photo but:

I figured as much. Is there a way to find out which story archs have reading orders and cross overs.

example is the picture i post below. I was lucky to stumble on this but wonder if there any other resource that is easy to find reading orders like this for new 52. I know it is fairly new but even for upcoming story arcs i want to make sure im reading it correctly.

    thanks for any help

most of the first arc are self contained. so you can just pick any title and read it.

the story order only comes in when there are crossovers which includes,

night of the owls, rotworld, the culling, green lantern first army, death of the family.

Generally, the way the time line goes when you are dealing with crossovers is...

All comics (and their present arcs) that occur presently happen, the crossover, then all comics/arcs that start after the beginning/end of the crossover take place after the crossover...

    For example...

    week 1 - arc 1 starts, week 2 - cross-over starts, week 3 - arc 2 starts, week 4 - arc 1 ends, week 5 - crossover ends, week 6 - arc 2 ends, week 7 - arc 3 begins.

    The timeline is generally is,,,

    Arc 1, Arc 2, Cross-over, Arc 3

    But sometimes it can be...

    Arc 1, Cross-over, Arc 2, Arc 3

The only reason to place Arc 2 after the cross-over is if it is stated in some way to occur after it, otherwise, it is best to consider it Arc 2 comes before because the writer of Arc 2 likely doesn't know what impact the cross over will have and thus can't write it in and thus to that writer it is as though the Cross-over hasn't happened yet.

There are also times when Arc 3 will take place before a Cross-Over that happened previous to it, but this is rare and usually only happens when there is several small arcs in a huge arc. In that case I don't know what to tell you other than you have to read to find out...though that's probably not the best thing if you are trying to read in order.

haha okay, ill guess if i cant find a reading order for any other story arcs, ill read in that order. It wont kill me if I dont read it in complete order but its nice to have an order to make sure the story doesnt get spoiled.

i guess green latern doesnt really have an order, i was able to find this list

By the way... A number of titles actually go from 1 to some number, jump back to before 1 for that issue, then continue on to issue 12, then jump back to before all the previous issues with issue 0, then back to where they were previously with 13... For Example the chronological reading order of Batman is... 0, 12, 1-9, Annual #1, 10-11... of course it doesn't have to be read that way, but that's the order of it.

Oh and if you are planning on reading Night of Owls, that is a cross over event, the Story Arc stars from Batman 1 and ends in Batman 12.

haha that too much for me. Why do they write it like that, seems like a pain, however im guessing chronologically that how it works but the writers dont want you to read it chronologically?

Depends on the writer... Some are just mimicking good writing, but some doing it because it's what works best. Watch Doctor Who. Each season is pretty much written so there is an event at the end that if you paid attention carefully you might be able to figure out the "event" that the clues are pointing towards or are revealing slowly and then at the very end an event is revealed that took place that the only way it works is if there is a "loop" of some sort and it shows you how it all works out and then when you rewatch the series you go "OMG!" because you get to see it in a completely new light.

There is no reason for this in Batman currently... it's just being annoying. I guess you could say that 12 is just being held off so as to create mystery or because there is no time to tell it but meh... Oh also technically, 12's opening where Harper is going to the party is the party that is happening in issue 1 and she is shown but not seen... the rest happens after that party in issue 1, but before 7. In fact the events of the following arc may actually take place during, or partially during, the Court of Owls Arc.

sometimes they just make comics so hard to follow if you havent been reading, Seems like there so many cross overs and out of order issues.

I am new to comics, sometimes i wish they would just make animated movies or tv shows to tell some of these story arcs.

So far, New 52 isnt too confusing, at least they don't have too many crossovers that are required to understand the story for now.
