If anything would need a bandaid. It would be DC Comics. Its only a matter of time that DC Market Share goes down low enough again and we get another reboot.

The problem with New 52 is that it caters to people's most lowbrow, smugly self-pitying, cynical, mindlessly escapist impulses -- and there is, admittedly, a huge market for that. New 52 celebrates our basest, most petty-minded and defensive natures, but since everyone has experienced on occasion the temptation to feel petulantly sorry for oneself and use it to justify stooping to mean-spiritedness, everyone can understand the overriding New 52 mindset.

New 52 is the comic book equivalent of using tobacco cigarettes as a cure for heart disease and respiratory disorders -- sure, it pleasures the smoker, but it doesn't help the smoker get any better and encourages the smoker to get far, far worse.

Previous DC continuities did not do that. Sure, there were always a few titles that appealed to lowbrow impulses, some that went through the motions of following the trends of cowardly cynicism and self-pitying mean-spiritedness, but those titles never controlled the overall mindset of DC titles. DC titles were known overall for appealing to our more noble, better natures instead; they did not celebrate self-pity but merely acknowledged that people have moments of it, they did not stoop to cynicism but openly defied it, and their escapism had a certain wit and intelligence to it. Petulant characters were the villains and losers, not the heroes, in the DC continuities that pre-existed the New 52.

Previous DC continuities celebrated humanity; New 52 has given up on humanity. Previous DC continuities celebrated heroism; New 52, like Zack Snyder and The Man of Steel, have given up on real heroism and celebrate instead bullies who happen to be bullies on our side.
