I liked yesterday's What If? Planet Hulk.  It could be since it was written by Greg Pak.  It felt...real.  Or at least relevant.  "What if the Annihilation Wave invaded during the Civil War?"  It could be interesting.  Buuuut, I wasn't too crazy about David Hine's Silent War.  I was actually bored.  I've mentioned before that I'm also losing interest in the Annihilation comics.  Being that this is closer to "home," maybe it'll be a different story.

Annihilus’ wave of destruction leveled entire worlds of the Kree and Skrull Empire. But writer David Hine (Silent War) and artists Mico Suayan (Moon Knight) and Rafael Kayanan (Conan) dare to ask What If?...the Annihilation wave made its way to Earth!

Hine describes it as "when events collide. The ultimate crossover book...in one bold story!” Fans have clamored to see what would have happened if Annihilation and Civil War collided and What If? Annihilation delivers!

In What If? Annihilation, the valiant heroes Nova, Drax, Phyla-Vell and Peter Quill fail to halt Annihilus and his murderous rampage across the universe. And eventually the tyrant from the Negative Zone brings his devastating armies to Earth, during the height of both Civil War and Silent War! In the face of a far greater enemy, Marvel heroes struggle to mend their broken alliances. But can both sides work together in spite of the broken trust and newfound animosity?

Meanwhile, the Inhumans have an important decision to make. Betrayed by a world that now so desperately needs their help, the Inhumans’ leader Black Bolt now hesitates to help those he once called allies.

Will the Inhumans come to Earth’s aid? Can the Marvel heroes repair their fractured alliances and stand up against the wave of Annihilation? The answers to these questions and more will be revealed in What If? Annihilation.

Here's a preview for the next issue of Spawn.

Spawn thought all was right with is newly created universe. But it
seems he’s recreated EVERYTHING -- even some of his old foes! Its
mano y mano time with the new, much more dangerous, clown vs Spawn.
Be there for the battle to end all battles!

Some grabs from the latest Spawn issue.

BERKELEY, CA -- APRIL 10, 2007 -- SPAWN #166 — featuring Spawn's rise from the ashes of armageddon — has sold out at Diamond. That's right: After 15 years of continuous publication, Todd McFarlane's signature creation can still spawn sell-out sales. This time it's thanks to new artist Brian Haberlin, who joins writer David Hine to steer Image's flagship title in an all-new direction! Hine and Haberlin's new take on SPAWN has struck such a chord with fans, and Image is immediately going back to press to meet the huge demand.

"Todd wanted us to grab people by the lapels and tell 'em that Spawn is back!" says writer David Hine. "The whole creative team felt supercharged, and it shows in the book. Once I saw Haberlin's art – particularly that soul-chilling last page – I knew we had a hit on our hands."

SPAWN #166 chronicles Spawn's life after the epic conclusion to the Armageddon story line. Spawn has returned to the alleyways of New York and found that not everything is right in the world. Part gritty crime story and part cutting edge horror, the opening salvo of Hine and Haberlin's new direction is easily the most talked about issue since the series' debut.

"Hine and Haberlin are leading SPAWN in a very new, very dark direction," says retailer Mike Malve of Atomic Comics in Phoenix. "If you haven’t read SPAWN before, now is a good place to give it a try. Haberlin's art is as different from previous incarnations of Spawn as McFarlane's original run was different from his work on Spider-man. Very dark, very disturbing… very good. "
