Career
Dave McKean began working with writer friend Neil Gaiman on the graphic novel Violent Cases. When Gaiman started working at DC/Vertigo Comics, the two collaborated once again on the mini-series Black Orchid as well as providing celebrated cover art for Gaiman's The Sandman and the first thirty or so issues of Hellblazer. McKean has also provided cover art for various Sandman spin-offs, including a long cover run on Th Dreaming and the 90's Black Orchid series.
He is also known for painting the graphic novel Batman: Arkham Asylum, A Serious House of Serious Earth (1989) with writer Grant Morrison, which has since gone on to become one of the best selling graphic novels of all time.
