Why is his name spelled the way it is?

I don't understand why it's not "Darkside"...I'm confused D:

Jack Kirby wanted it to sound more alien and a tad biblical, so he made it Darkseid as a opposed to Darkside

because star wars already took The Dark Side name so they had to make do with what they got

Darkseid is older than Star Wars.
 
The above explanation is most likely what Kirby was going for a superfriends series in the eighties attempted to name him Darkside but he did not like it.
