Each week we find some cool comic book collectibles and open them up to see just how cool they really are outside of the package. This is the week I've been waiting for. It's time to take a look at the New 52 version of Darkseid and a Parademon.

You can see Darkseid is a big dude, just like in the comics. The figure stands at 13" and is a very solid and heavy figure. For the retail price of $89.95, you expect it to be a massive figure.

That is a lot of money but you have to keep in mind the regular figures are $22.95. It might still seem like a lot but when you actually see it, you'll find it hard to resist. I would imagine there won't be as many of these produced as the other figures. Once they sell out, the aftermarket price is bound to rise.

Let's take a closer look at him.

== TEASER ==

Of course with Darkseid, you expect there to be some Parademons running around. I'm sorry to say that at $22.95, I won't be buying as many Parademons as shown on the back of the Darkseid box. But I did have a couple of the animated version.

Of course with this sort of monkeying around, you know Darkseid isn't going to be too happy.

Prepare for the wraith of Darkseid. Actually, he has a soft spot for some of the Parademons so he'll probably go a little easy on them.

The Parademon itself is pretty cool. It's also tempting to want to get more than one. It's a good and bad thing that they didn't make some with slightly different faces. Then it would have been really hard to resist buying just one.

I love the claws in the hands and feet. With these feet, the Parademon can easily stand pretty much wherever you want to put him.

With all the other Justice League figures that have been released (and featured here), you know what's coming, right?

Sorry. The battle got too ugly. We just didn't feel it was right to show what happened during the fight. But here's what happened next.

You'll notice not all of the Justice League was present. Superman must have been busy doing something. Actually I never bought him because he wasn't available separately until recently. I still have to buy one.

But if you look carefully at that last image above, this may not be the end for the League.

You can get these figures directly from DC at their online store. Darkseid arrived safe and sound in a big sturdy box with lots of padding. The Parademon box had a big tear in it. That'd be a bummer for those collecting and not opening the box. You can also find them at some comic shops. You might even be able to ask them to order some for you.

That's it for this week. There should be another installment next week. I still have some toys waiting in the wings for their time in the spotlight.

I've seen the Darkseid at my shop. Massive! What is that thing like 12-13"?

Darkseid is way too expensive. I bought all of them in a box set. They look so pretty.

Can't wait for green arrow to be out.

Darksied is HUGE and EXPENSIVE! I wish I could get him but he is just so much money.

Also nice little stop motion story you have here. Batman always wins.

I didn't know Darkseid was that big.

#8 Posted by nerdork (4035 posts) - - Show Bio

I love my Darkseid figure, but i will never be opening the box. The only figure I am missing is Supes. So, i too have a very lopsided showdown between my toys.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it is; i saw it at my local comic shop recently, but it was sold out that same day. Had i known that i could have pre-ordered one of those, with a slight decrease to the overall price, i would not have pained myself with finding out when they were all being released separately and fighting a bunch of angry comic book fans for mine every month since July.

Yep it's out, I got mine about two weeks ago and I live in the uk.

An entire post of one man playing with action figures... I approve.

Kirby was by far one of the best comic book designers of all time. Jim Lee really is not.

@G-Man Thought this was funny, so I showed this to my wife because I still have to get Darkseid. While I'm trying to change the fanboy stereotype, this might have set me back because she is wondering if you need a roommate.

As cool as these are, we need some of the awesome looking new characters of the new 52 created, there are already so many batman figures.

New characters needing toys: Batwing, Talon, Saiko, Andrew Bennett

The newly designed and less common figures like these would be Really cool: Swamp thing, New52 Nightwing, New52 Red Robin, the Suicide Squad members, Black Manta, Deathstroke.

It's a pity so many great and, for most parts, simple designs get ruined by the likes of Jim Lee.

I really need to grab these

And under the Christmas tree.

He looks like a great figure but I would not pay nearly 90 for him, that's just takes the cake.So the regular figures 23 as well.Thats overpriced too.Considering other companies like NECA who work in this scale make much more detailed and articulated figures and are around 17 or 18.

What are the dimensions of the box for Darkseid? I can't seem to find that anywhere.

#21 Posted by naylor11 (65 posts) - - Show Bio

Great story telling lol. I am saving up for that thing. I'm about halfway there

11" x 6" x 14"

Hopefully you don't have a large box as a gift and you're trying to spoil the surprise.

Not a big DC guys so be nice, but is it pronounced "Dark-seed" or "Dark-side"? Or something entirely different and I'm an idiot?

This way.

I just saw the whole package of the whole New 52 Justice League at a store for 99.99.

It took all my restraint not to buy that. Personally, I think I could become a Green Lantern with all the will power I spent today.

Great review, Tony! Thanks so much for this! :D

#36 Posted by Purgatory (37 posts) - - Show Bio

I bought Darkseid about a week or two ago. Maybe a week ago. I love him.

Problem is, be VERY careful when taking him out of the box. I stood the box up on my table, pulled the inner box out of the top, and Darkseid just came crashing out of the inner box and smashed ALL of my Warmachine figures. Broke my damn Juggernaut's foot off. Damn you, Darkseid! He is an evil God.

But he does look very awesome sitting on my table.

Love that Darkseid figure. However not crazy about his new duds DC gave him. Thanks G-Man for this, these reviews always have great photos!

Absolutely. I'd donate plasma if I had to to get some of these figures. Calvin Rose/Talon, Andrew Bennett, Swamp Thing, Animal Man 3 pack with Maxine and Socks, maybe even Boy Chimney from Dial H. Make my dreams a reality DC direct.

awesome.

What I wouldn't give for DC to come out with a line of 3 3/4" figures like Marvel Universe, especially now that they are doing figures based on New 52 character designs. Don't get me wrong these are awesome, but they are just so big and take up space that I really don't have.

I like the animated Parademons mixed with this version of Darkseid. The new ones just look idk not as good.
