Sinister? Hardly...
The Story:
Mac Gargan has been posing as Spider-Man since the "Dark Reign" has begun. WIth Norman Osborn in charge, Gargan can literally get away with anything. Now Gargan is strolling through the city causing mayhem, igniting gang wars, eating people and getting any girl he desires until some D-list villains try to get in his way.
My Thoughts:
This poorly constructed tie-in to the "Dark Reign" story arc is written by Brian Reed. Reed is probably most known for his work on the Ms. Marvel series in which his writing tends to be inconsistent. The same can be said for this comic as well. Often times while reading this, I felt his characterization for several of the characters involved, was way off. His dialogue for the gang members was just ridiculously horrid. I wanted to shoot myself…seriously. Gargan didn't really seem that "sinister" at all. Sometimes I felt he was a little out of character as well. That's probably why I couldn't enjoy this comic at all. The group of D-list villains were lame. I've never heard of any of them and they did nothing to improve this comic in any way.
The art has its ups and downs. It definitely lacks consistency. At times it does shine nicely, particularly Chris Bachalo's portion. But at other times the art is sketchy and the coloring is poorly done, messing without he overall vibe of the comic.
Definitely would not recommend this to anyone. Even if you're a big Venom fan you'll be disappointed with this. The story is lame and completely pointless. Save your money and get something else.
